;) totally agree i love the last part of time... the first legato is cool too.
The last solo is like turkey man at the end : i mean when he plays a "space" part :

It's just couples of double notes... simple so far.
The end solo is simple for a satriani song !

Crystal planet : the end of the song

oh yeah and in response to the original thread topic - i think solo's from songs joe sings in seem more intense or something. lifestyle's solo is a good one to mention i think - i really like that one.
Circles is another song i couldnt believe i was hearing when he broke out the solo when i was watching live in SF for the first time
NightWalker - November 12, 2005 04:19 PM (GMT)
the guitar solo on the rubina song live from the cd time machine, everytime i heard this song make cry i don`t know why?
Spider - November 12, 2005 10:33 PM (GMT)

Unti we said goodbye :) Always With Me Always with you :)

For me the best moment Satch has ever played is the first solo in concert version of "Echo" from Time Machine. That's the most expressive and powerful explosion of his style. That's the romantic storm and I think this solo isn't to repeat...
Drew - December 22, 2005 04:10 PM (GMT)
Tossup between the solo to "Until We Say Goodbye" and to "All Alone"
Bahamut - December 22, 2005 04:23 PM (GMT)
Has to be the middle solo in devil's slide, the live in san francisco version :P
Might get round to doing a cover of it :o
Dal777 - December 31, 2005 07:58 AM (GMT)
I think flying in a blue dream is got a great solo
crying too.
kane_satriani - December 31, 2005 10:14 AM (GMT)
RUBINA!!!!The solo is pure and perfect.
lks - January 15, 2006 05:02 AM (GMT)
The beggining of the solo of "killer bee boop"... is just amazing.
The ending in "Cystal planet" too.
It´s very difficult to choose just one.
surfin5150 - January 15, 2006 03:19 PM (GMT)
first solo from crushing day...fast, legato and melodic B)
tschommer - January 15, 2006 03:31 PM (GMT)
I really love If I Could Fly.
radilam - January 22, 2006 02:14 AM (GMT)
Flying in a Blue Dream has a great part when he starts shredding from the low E string to the A string and back again - I LOVE that!
Dimarzio FRED - January 22, 2006 03:38 AM (GMT)
i like solo off the album version of "is there love in space". he starts out with those "space like" sounds with the whammy bar, then goes into that legato stuff with the wah pedal. im not sure exactly what it is about that solo, i think it has something to do with the wah/legato, the way he uses odd note groupings and it fits the song well. if you listen to it you'll know what i mean.
jpd123 - February 13, 2006 06:22 PM (GMT)
The solo for secret prayer from crystal planet is one of my favs. Rubina's blue sky happiness solo is up there also. I love the solos where he changes the tempo of the structure of the song and takes it somewhere else.( I know I am technically deficient when it comes to music theory in explaning myself sorry). A lot of guitarists can have the speed of Satriani but very few have the emotion of his playing. He always is pushing forwrd and is not stale.
Axeshredder - February 14, 2006 12:43 AM (GMT)
Searching which is just like a jam song..i like the creativity that he pressed into doing to keep such a long jam interesting
Shawn - February 14, 2006 02:14 AM (GMT)
Definately Until We Say Goodbye or Secret Prayer. Flying In A Blue Dream has one of my favorite solos and Crushing Day's solo is mindblowin' too. B)

For me personal it is Searching.
This devine masterpiece sounds very Jimi-ish, but it's served on a melodical Joe-ish way, with toast on the side ;)

My favourite Joe solo changes quite frequently, at the moment it's Moroccan Sunset. The tone, the key, the rhythm underneath the solo all fit perfectly. 1:34 into the solo is an amazing picking lick. Joe doesn't pick as fast as a lot of his contemporaries but I think when he does pick fast he uses it to maximum effect and sounds way better than anyone else out there - it doesn't sound like an exercise.
wetpants - February 19, 2006 04:52 AM (GMT)
One of my favourite Joe solo moments is during Friends on the Live In San Fran DVD when he cranks his head and does a funky nod during a cool lick and then somebody in the audience raises the devil horns. Another one is the alien sounding noises he makes in the solo for War on the new G3 DVD (with the bar facing backwards). I think my ultimate favourite moment is when the key change happens during the tapping lick in The Mystical Potato Head Groove Thing. Gives me goosebumps every time!

I agree man, Time is my all time favorite song. The outro is amazing. Most Def. Joe's best moment IMHO...

This is like trying to name your favourite child ahead of all the rest. But, with a gun to my head, I would nominate Crushing Day, simply because it just rides through this awesome ascending bit, then descends, then ascends back up again like it is trying to out run a Leer Jet on its way to such a great finish...how Joe EVER conceived of that and had the prescence of mind to write it all out, but then be able to actually perform it!! Legendary.
Other notable mentions of mine include:
The Extremist
Flying in a Blue Dream
The Souls of Distortion
Surfing
Why
If I Could Fly
Ten Words
Big Bad Moon
Banana Mango 2
A Train of Angels
Time Machine
Moroccan Sunset
New Last Jam
Who am I kidding....all of the them, for different reasons at different times :)

The intro? 98% sure that's not a whammy bar, but a wah pedal hooked up backwards. I stumbled upon that same sound a couple years ago while working on a song - www.myspace.com/drewpeterson7, the track called "A Pagan's Prayer."
I'd recorded the backing track and was jamming out on it when I decided it called for some wah. So, I quickly hooked my wah up and because I hadn't used it in ages and wasn't paying attention (I was losing valuable solo time ) I accidentally hooked the instrument side up to my amp, and the output side up to my guitar. It worked perfectly until I clicked it on, when suddenly I got these absurd high squeaking, whistling noises that would swoop and dive in pitch as I rocked the pedab back and forth before finally cutting out when I went all the way back. Switching pickups and adjusting the volume and tone made them change pitch, too.
So, naturally, I just HAD to record it - the outro solo was improvised like that, just random chirps and whistles that somehow I actually (sheer luck) got to follow some sort of a melody.
Dimarzio FRED - March 21, 2006 05:00 PM (GMT)
hmmm. i think we might be talking about something different. about the whammy bar i just meant the beginning part in the solo that starts out like:

i checked out your website, cool song btw :D
rob310 - March 21, 2006 05:26 PM (GMT)
cool #9 when joe grabs the fretboard w/ his right hand and goes back up the fretboard to the top

Oh, right, the bar dives. My bad.
But I do think that's how he plays the intro, with a wah hooked up backwards and creating some sort of internal feedback.
Dimarzio FRED - March 21, 2006 06:48 PM (GMT)
its cool. i never really thought of trying the wah pedal backwards, i might give it a go and see what happens :hunger:

My favourite Solopart is this onehand-appregio in Cool #9...
It's just amazing!
MegaIce - March 30, 2006 04:15 PM (GMT)
I like Ice 9 from Dreaming #11, Oriental Melody and Until We Say Goodbye.
motionblur - April 4, 2006 12:01 AM (GMT)
Circles kills me when the solo starts. Up to that point, he's just kind of playing along, then suddenly says F*CK IT and blows the doors off the place!
zenmonkey - April 4, 2006 12:06 AM (GMT)
Flying In A Blue Dream, I think Joe described it as a 'cathartic experience' to record. If I can remember correctly, his father was dying at the time and it all just came out one night when he was recording that song. Joe said in the interview I read about this that he couldn't bring himself to listen to the song for months afterwards because it was a bit too much for him, he couldn't go back to the place he went in his mind while he was playing it. Man, I wish I still had the article cos I would have posted some of it, but I do know that story is true.
