Title: Portal Glitch With Opera 8.5
Description: forum opens in a new window...

Hey, this isn't a huge deal, but it's kinda bugging me. I use the Opera web browser on my home computer because frankly it kicks the crap out of everything else I've used. At work though, I still run IE simply because that came stock on the system, and we're not really encouraged to install additional programs on our work computers.

So, when I load www.satrianiforum.com at work, I go to the portal page, then click on the banner at top, and it brings me to the forum (incidentally, a "follow this link to the forum" text link somewhere would be a good idea anyway, just to make it extra plain where you have to go - the first few times I came here after the portal page went up, I'd click the "rules" link, then the "forum index" link from there). However, when I do this at home on Opera, the forum is opened in a new page. Like I said, its not a massive deal, especially in that Opera does tabbed windows, but it's a little less clean than it could be. Thanks!

I take it I'm the site's only Opera user?

I think it's just a browser error, which you probabaly cant solve without swapping browsers. Maybe try emptying your cookie jar? If all elese fails...then I'm no use to you!

Thanks, I was feeling lonely here. ;)

It's definitely not a cookies issue, it's some sort of a scripting problem where Opera interprets the link code one way while Microsoft does another. I'll download the code tonight and see if I can find the line that's doing it, but I'm hardly a HTML expert...

Either that or ignore the 'minor' problem...

Sounds like your having the same goofy problem some of us Firefox users were having a couple weeks ago. The only way I could get into the forums was to go through the link on ForeverJoe.com. It did pass now and I haven't had the problem since.

I still believe its the server host playing games and not knowing how to set up a server right. B)

I have had similar problems on my home computer when I click on my favourites to go to the portal I used to get a scripting error now it says it cannot find the page (Internet Explorer)... I got round it by removing the link in favourites and finding the one of the forum topics in google then adding this to favourites instead. I initially thought there was a problem with the site going down because some of the other guitar sites I visit have had problems recently. The only problem by getting into the site this way is I can't get to my profile to edit anything because I still get page unavailable!

same here ;)

it's a script that directs you to the portal, does the read link <forum> not work for you?

Opera pwns Firefox. :fuckyou2:

hehe, sorry, couldn't resist. ;) Actually, on IE at least, the Forum Home link redirects to the http://portal.satrianiforum.com page, too, so it doesn't bring you anywhere. I'm not sure what it does on Opera, but I suspect the same. I'll try when I get home.

the <forum> link links to www.satrianiforum.com, not the portal....

I find all those scripts at forums for invision, and I am a total noob in the html/php/java domain. I initially used the script because otherwise nobody would visit the portal ;)

Not on the version of IE I'm running - I think what's happening is www.satrianiforum.com hotlinks to portal.satrianiforum.com, so when you hit a link that directs you from www.portal.satrianiforum.com to www.satrianiforum.com, what happens is it immediately redirects you back to www.portal.satrianiforum.com.

Looking at the forum index, I'm guessing if you change the red link from http://www.satrianiforum.com/ to http://satrianiforum.com, you should be all set.

Edit - nevermind, both of those links go without problems to the forum index. Now I'm perplexed... Somehow, though, the red link is opening the version of the main page that links back to the portal on this browser (6.0.28)

EDIT#2 - I can confirm with 110% certianty that the red link on the portal does return you to the portal, on this version of IE

pfew, then i might consider to get rid of that code... it might be pretty confusing for some people.
