I ain't fully agreeing the list, some pretty famous people are on that 'craplist'....

PLease share me your thoughts, concerns, and laughs ....

Eh, regardless of how "Comfortably Numb" was cut, it's a fuckin' classic of a solo.

Though, um, it's not exactly like it's so hard you couldn't just improv a couple takes to get a feel, listen back to it, and work out something similar in 10 minutes... :/

Phish's Hoist is a great album, and I can't even remember which track "Demand" is. I think it's the last one that starts with the car samples... If so, they're right.

Notable exception - Stairway To Heaven. Not because it's terribly bad, but because I'm sick of hearing just how great it is. I'm sorry, the opening lick is cool, but the rest of it could put me to sleep, and Jimi had already done far more with that progression on "All Along the Watchtower."

no offence to breadfan (or breadman whatever his username is), but i think his = worst i 've ever heard

tschommer - January 18, 2006 02:20 AM (GMT)
I have no words for the stupidity of that list... Wait I guess I have a few, there some great solos by brilliant players on that list. Whoever wasted time putting it together is so far beyond stupid that it's difficult to comprehend. Lots of the songs by not so great players are still great songs so what's the point of ripping on the solos?

Idiot!!!

whoever made that site has a reallly negative way of looking at things. ive heard good solo's and ones that i dont like so much, but never thought that a solo could ever have so many bad merits as to put it down on a list of the worst. also the reasons the guy gives are stupid- who gives a damn if comfortably numb has a solo made out of bits and pieces? its still awesome sounding!

EDIT: hes obviously an idiot anyway - you just cant put down guitarists like SRV - he just doesnt know what hes talking about is all. like people that say jimi hendrix wasnt that great without looking at what his music is made up of. id ask that guy to try compose a solo that fits with music (that is also good) like many of the players on that list. i bet he couldnt.

EDIT AGAIN:

grrrrr :censored2: he should be ending every sentence with "in my opinion". then i could take it..

every time i press submit i read soemthing else !!

Eddie has had his moments-- he flaunts his nimble fingertips on early VH instrumentals like "Cathedral" and "Eruption." Yet he's probably one of the worst group players in history.

thats crap and he knows it

ok, I thought I was the only one that was shocked more or less... seems not by the look at the replies...

Exactly, I have the idea the writer was on bad Acid when he wrote this. Or he or she's just an arrogant prick.

Maybe the list is correct, from a n00b's perspective? ;)

(defintion of a n00b in this context: someone that never touched a guitar, doesn't have any musical background, someone that does the talk but sure he ain't doing the walk)

Stairway to Heaven can be sleepy idd, but I love it since this masterpiece phrases are so beautifully blended into each other. But I quess I don't have to prove that to you hehe :)

Hey, like I said, that opening lick is perfect. It's just it gets pretty stale after that :/

ROFL add me to the breadfan's solo's = worst ever list :D

On the the list, I hate how this guy totally bashes people like Stevie Ray Vaughan and Steve Lukather, both of them (although you can't compare them) are amazing guitar players. SRV is imo a brilliant blues player. And don't get me started about Steve Lukather, he's my favorite guitar player.

This list is bs imo, the fact comfortably numb is on there just confirms this guy is full of crap.

Bahamut - January 18, 2006 11:51 PM (GMT)
Hmm i don't agree with his take on Boston, but then everyone is intitled to a opinion :o

Eric - January 19, 2006 11:51 AM (GMT)
I didn't even care to read the lot! What a nonsense, that guy should seek a decent job or a life! The names mentioned in the recital are some of the biggest in modern music history! He probably doesn't even realize that he was influenced by them. To give some negative feedback, okay, music taste is a rather subject matter, but to put all these classics in a "worst solo" list is rather exaggerated!

Spider - January 19, 2006 02:33 PM (GMT)
This is preposterous. How SRV or SL can made one of the worst solos? I think we shouldn't take that list serious...

18. "Hold the Line" by Toto
Soloist: Steve Lukather
Album: Toto
Year: 1978

Former L.A. session hack Steve Lukather is a legend in certain circles. If you'll recall, Toto was on top of the world at one dreary point in American music history. But here we have another out- of- control whammy bar escapade that has absolutely nothing to do with the song. And above all, Lukather tacks on that tinny guitar harmonizing just to show everyone he's hip to the hottest- selling sound around. No doubt Toto sent talent spies to the Boston camp to steal bad ideas (and vice- versa). In fact, Boston and Toto could have been the same band for all I know, and stolen all their ideas from Thin Lizzy. Along with guys like that blasted Neal Schon, Lukather reduced rock solos to bloodlessly thin, withered pop-metal deformities.

hahahahaha ROFL!

Eric - January 19, 2006 05:44 PM (GMT)
blablabla, yadayadayada: NONSENSE, indeed: ROFL :D

@ Spider, Breadfan can't even read the forum anymore, he's gottten an IP-block ;)

21. "Tush" by ZZ Top
Soloist: Billy Gibbons
Album: Fandango
Year: 1975

*crys*

i love ZZ Top :o

radilam - January 22, 2006 04:55 AM (GMT)
I don't like the hit to SRV's "Cold Shot" solo! I can understand overrated for some of these, but not bad.

Mindstorm - January 27, 2006 08:11 PM (GMT)
43. "Comfortably Numb" by Pink Floyd
Soloist: David Gilmour
Album: The Wall
Year: 1979

:censored2: :mad3:

42. "Cold Shot" by Stevie Ray Vaughan
Soloist: Stevie Ray Vaughan
Album: Live Alive
Year: 1986

Okay, GIT students, here's the song and solo transcribed: Got somethin' cold somethin', yank, yank, yank, moan, plod, plod, moan, yank, yank. Overrated City, pal. Vaughan solos rarely varied; he used the same accents, and always soloed for the same egregious length of time. If this is a blues guitarist playing with utmost muscle and conviction, then evidently no one's ever witnessed Albert Collins or Mike Bloomfield play blues guitar. Vaughan actually did flirt with brilliance on Bowie's Let's Dance-- he actually showed creativity and restraint. But then I guess he decided he was gonna become the next Jimi Hendrix. Known more for his tone than anything else, Stevie Ray is responsible for influencing legions of solo- happy Texas- style blues guitarists (Ian Moore, Jonny Lang, et. al.) who need a shitload of notes to get the job done. Funny thing is how old bluesmen like Jimmy Reed and John Lee Hooker were able to say so much more with much less technical prowess and mere handfuls of notes

WTF?

ooooo!! mindstorm! you almost got some :fuckyou: coming at you! i read your post and it looked like those were your words!!!!

No 'worst guitar solo list' without Nirvana and REM!

Pocketaces - April 18, 2006 02:12 AM (GMT)
I have to wonder what guitar solo this guy thinks is actually "good."

odd trio - April 22, 2006 09:46 PM (GMT)
some reviewer said the ''dyer mak'er'' solo was ''a cheap solo''. but it's perfect.

Ma2003 - April 23, 2006 12:43 AM (GMT)
Funny, I actually thought the 'I was made for loving you by KISS' solo was kinda catchy, I still think it is catchy. As well as the 'Hold the Line' lead break.

If this was earlier in april, I would of thought it was an attempted april fools joke with a few things that aren't really funny.

satriani guy - June 25, 2006 05:14 PM (GMT)
i was looking forward to a nice bit of greenday bashing here but maybe not,, i dont agree with the list but i doo agree with Drew on the stairway thing,, little bit of the smells like teen spirit effect on that one i think.. .. .. .. ..
