Title: Satch Project?
Description: What Satch Song Are you Learning?

zero - March 3, 2006 06:51 PM (GMT)
What Satch song are you currently working on?

atm Im trying to get down Up in the Sky. Pretty fun song and not that hard at all.

Drew - March 3, 2006 07:15 PM (GMT)
I used to know that one, but it's been so long I probably couldn't play it at gunpoint these days. I agree though - a fun, straightforward solo.

I'm really not good at playing other people's music - I don't know what it is, must be some kind of a mental block... But I picked up the Extremist songbook last night, and I'm thinking of taking another crack at the "Summer Song" solo - I managed to get the opening through the 22nd-fret pulloff stuff down fairly cleanly in about 15 minutes, so maybe something's beginning to click. ;)

brisdaddy - March 4, 2006 01:04 AM (GMT)
Satch Boogie.

Mapu - March 4, 2006 06:37 AM (GMT)
I've already learnt Day at the Beach, and i think that song would be the only one i will play complete, hahahaa. Im not a very good guitar player, but its ok.

The songs that are in process are Crystal Planet, Raspberry Jam Delta V for now

TecWiz - March 4, 2006 09:36 PM (GMT)

Dimarzio FRED - March 17, 2006 08:12 PM (GMT)
ive been working on summer song for a while now, ive got it down up through where the intro repeats itself, have been too lazy to get the rest of it memorized, and there's some tricky parts towards the end.

working on extremist, ive got all the main melodies down, and about half the solo, up until the part where he starts ascending 4-5-7 on the low e string, that runs got me stumped.

i started working on time, but i think im gonna forget about that one for a few months, the solo is way over my head.

im working on hordes of locusts, have all the main stuff and some of the solo, still trying to get the legato stuff down but it sounds like crap when i play it, thats gonna take a while.

my next project is "secret prayer", such a beautiful song.

ive got a JS1000BP that should be getting delivered soon that should motivate me to learn a bunch of new stuff, cant wait :D

I've only been playing for a year and a half (self taught <_< ) so when I'm learning a satch song, there's only so much I can play before it gets too difficult ;) . I have managed to learn all of Satch Boogie and sloppy versions of Surfin and Midnight. I know bits of a bunch of other songs like Ice 9, Borg Sex, Summer Song, Crystal Planet, The Extremist, Up In The Sky, and others. Currently I'm trying to learn Friends and Summer Song.

Joe=life=guitar - March 28, 2006 01:24 AM (GMT)
am currently working on satch boogie..3 day now and up 1:00 of the song,or less.

Mapu - March 28, 2006 03:41 AM (GMT)
I really want to play Raspberry jam delta V, its a very fun song.

The thing is that i am not a great guitar player, and i'm really bad at sweep pickin, so that tricky thing he does sweepin up the neck en goin to legattos, has to be practiced like for 50 year at least, haha. i'll try to fix it with somethin i can came up with, so i can play the whole song

shepstar1 - March 28, 2006 01:13 PM (GMT)
Im working on Not of this Earth. Nice song but i need to get my twin guitar harmonies on time :D

Criss - March 28, 2006 01:47 PM (GMT)
Echo , Time machine live version.

Mapu - March 29, 2006 01:33 AM (GMT)
Good choice criss, i really love the live version of echo on Time Machine Album.

FenixBG - September 13, 2006 05:43 PM (GMT)
I have undertaken a really wierd project - The Bells Of Lal Pt. 1
I have always loved this song and I have never seen a cover of it.
So far I have done the following: I reversed the song and reversed the power tab. Now I am listening many many times to the reversed (well actually the original) song and I try to learn it reversed, then play it and then I plan to reverse the whole thing again. I doubt I will ever do it as I know myself but...

So far I have done only the outro of the song (reversed that is the intro) and the project looks like

this

and it sounds like

this

:beer3:

edit: Today I decided to do the intro and I think that I got it more accurate than I got the Outro that's above.
Anyone care to share an opinion?

Intro

stewmunny - September 13, 2006 06:21 PM (GMT)
that is a class job reversing the palying good luck with the rest of it.

I nailed 10 words and more or less nailed Flying A Blue Dream so I think something like Love Eternal or Crush of Love will be next....so many choices can't decide

Redshift Rider - September 13, 2006 09:54 PM (GMT)
Right now, I am learning Circles.
Love that solo!!!

But, I also everyday practice the Summer Song solo and Surfing solo. I'm getting really close to nailing them though!

EDIT: Just finished Circles! I love playing that!!! :w00t:

motorcycle_driver - September 14, 2006 07:33 AM (GMT)
tryin to nail Super Colossal solo. but just cant. im actually trying to learn Dream Theater's Byond this life. have learnt most of it's riffs, but solo's are WAY beyond my capability!

Psycho Monkey - September 14, 2006 05:14 PM (GMT)
I'm currently working on a backing track for a live feel Cool#9. Unfortunately I don't have a bass guitar so I record the bass line with my guitar through a whammy pedal (oct down) and tweak the EQ to get it somewhere close!

I am very grateful to the guy who tabbed the LISF version in Guitar Pro!

bubkusjones - September 28, 2006 02:25 AM (GMT)
Right now I'm working on Satch Boogie. I've got the intro somewhat down, I just need to work on cleaning it up and speeding it up.

Then, on to the rest of the song (and by then I should have my POD XT Live, so I'll be able to play it and have it sound like it should, not an unplugged electric).

I have a couple of good pod live patches that I tweaked and get a goos sound for Satch Boogie...give me shout when you get it and I'll send them to you.

I am working through the licklibrary lesson on Satch Boogie and have got to about the end of the 4th solo but really need to get the 1st 2nd and 3rd solo a bit cleaner and fluent. It definitely makes a differnce though practicing this stuff plugged in so that you can get your left and right hand muting down.

Does anyone do the tapping part of this track and if so do they think the DAnny Gill lesson is accurate as pattern of notes does not seem to be quite the same for each chord shape as Satch's own lesson on google/youtube ?

Currently finishing off the extremist just confused what fret does satch use the harmonics with the bar on near the end of the solo is it the 12th fret or 5th fret on the f-string i got 2 tabs just no idea which one is correct on that part also now working on the forgotten part 2 and until we say goodbye.

3 brilliant pieces of music.
Very recommended!

seppe_sai - January 20, 2007 06:48 PM (GMT)

SCOTTY V - January 20, 2008 06:36 PM (GMT)
I have Crying pretty good and also working on all the other ballads, Rubina, AWMAWY, Love thing. also Big bad Moon and have alot of Summer Song down good also. I have been working on bits and pieces of most all his songs at one time or another. Most of them are great up to a certain point when your learning them and then you have to go to the woodshed for 6 mos. to learn a 10 sec ,part.

mouhsen - January 21, 2008 02:42 PM (GMT)
bamboo, midnight, headless, new day :)

seppe_sai - January 22, 2008 04:32 AM (GMT)
im re-learning SWTA first solo....any help with the evil pick tapping?

spacepineapple - February 5, 2008 10:47 AM (GMT)
Surfing with the alien, Summer Song, Satch Boogie.

Btw, seppe_sai, about the pick tapping: just tense your picking arm up and itll start shaking automatically  or maybe im just weird. And anyway, the tapping part isnt the part which you should worry about...Its the uber hard section straight after *shudder*

seppe_sai - February 11, 2008 06:30 PM (GMT)
thats the way i do it, its pretty hard that way, and dangerous too xD

now im learning not of this earth

german1988 - February 24, 2008 11:17 AM (GMT)
Always with me, always with you, Midnight :) cool stuff, you know

Drunken Dave - February 24, 2008 04:17 PM (GMT)
I've been really into Satchs softer side lately so I re-learned Love Thing, learned A Love Eternal (nice for a warm up on the fingers), and am currently trying my hand at AWM, AWY. There is one part in it that I just keep screwing up (the quick bit at 1:10) I'm generally got all that good on stuff like that in general so it's proving to be a bit of a bugger. I'm getting better at it but it'll be a while yet me thinks lol.
