Title: Js1200 Raffle, Poll Added!
Description: please vote

grijalva - February 15, 2006 04:03 AM (GMT)
Well, I was at jemsite and they made this raffle: 120 members pay 20 bucks and when 120 members join they get a number and draw them. The winner gets a JEM FOR $20!
So, i was thinking we could do the same here for a JS1200. I think it would be awesome.
Well here is the link of the raffle rules in jemsite

http://www.jemsite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=44420

Please consider it Eric. I think we can do this if we all collaborate!

EDIT: Oh, and sorry if this is in the wrong place!

ddragon64 - February 15, 2006 10:05 PM (GMT)
I like the idea, very doable. Would be nicer here since you wouldn't have to fight for a spot in the raffle once we get to 120 members. B)

Very nice I would be in for that one.

Axeshredder - February 16, 2006 05:16 AM (GMT)
i would do it but the number has to be drawn from a public source so its cant be settup...then im in!

grijalva - February 16, 2006 04:33 PM (GMT)
Well if we're gonna do this, we need Eric! Where is he?!

RaSpBeRrY JaM - February 16, 2006 10:28 PM (GMT)
I'd be up for that, it sounds like a cool idea.

grijalva - February 16, 2006 10:45 PM (GMT)
So, Eric what do you say?

stevelukather - February 17, 2006 02:18 PM (GMT)
Hehe, cool idea. But I'm a very poor student... :( lol!

tschommer - February 17, 2006 02:48 PM (GMT)
I like the idea, I would definitely buy a few tickets. I spend a lot of time here so I would love the opportunity to contribute to maintaining the site somehow, and if I could score a sweet guitar all the better.

grijalva - February 18, 2006 04:06 PM (GMT)
Ok, we have around 1000 memebers and the JS1200 costs about $1,369.99 so we only need like 90 or 100 people. I think we could fo this but i can't find Eric anywhere.

P.S. The entry would be $20 USD.

Axeshredder - February 18, 2006 05:45 PM (GMT)
this is an awesome idea....and the profits can go torwards the site....we can chose the first 2 digits in a public lottery after the raffle numbers have been handed out so theres no question its fair...and you can buy as many as you want

grijalva - February 18, 2006 05:54 PM (GMT)
I think we can make it.
In jemsite they had kennydoe which collected the numbers and when there was 120 members subscribed he would give out the number with DClottery. So we could get a moderator or someone very trustfull like, You Axeshredder, or Phrydom to collect the money.

XPGoD - February 18, 2006 06:10 PM (GMT)
Sounds like a cool idea... Wish I knew of the JEM giveaway

Axeshredder - February 18, 2006 06:15 PM (GMT)
hey if this works..we can do any popular gear...JSX!....or anything really

grijalva - February 18, 2006 06:21 PM (GMT)
Yeah! Thats great! But what i meant is that the money we enter will be used to buy the guitar fro example 90 tickets for $20 each which would come to a total of $1800. The JS1200 costs $1370. Shipping will have to be in charge of the winner. So the $43 left can be used for the site.

Axeshredder - February 18, 2006 06:27 PM (GMT)
what i meant is 100 tix at 2000 bux will cover the time and effort taken by whoever manages it....covers the shipping..and also any deadbeats that hold up the drawing date.....all this shouldnt exeed $1500 ....$500 or whatever is left should go to this site and future project of the site...i think this is more than fair to all participants and covers any issues that may arise..

ps...i dont understand your math..lol

grijalva - February 18, 2006 06:30 PM (GMT)
lol, someone else can do the math, hehe.

RaSpBeRrY JaM - February 18, 2006 06:45 PM (GMT)
or just have less people, then each person has more chance of winning. I mean a js1200 costs about $12-13,00 then only 60-65 people need to enter and pay $20.
It depends how much people think is reaonable price I guess.

grijalva - February 18, 2006 06:58 PM (GMT)
Yeah, i think that'll do.

Satch Boogie - February 18, 2006 06:59 PM (GMT)
I'd be in for this. My $20 already over at jemsite ;)

I think we'd need to find out how much a JS is gonna cost. Then where do we source the guitar? I'd like to think that we could have nominated suppliers in different parts of the world. Only saying that because if someone wins a guitar from the USA and lives in Europe would have to pay a lot of tax. I think that issue put off a number of guys sending in their $20 on Jemsite. Just to give some idea, if I win the JEM, then I'm gonna have to pay around $800 just to receive the guitar (in extra shipping and taxation).

grijalva - February 18, 2006 07:14 PM (GMT)
I think thats the main problem: Shipping...

RaSpBeRrY JaM - February 18, 2006 07:50 PM (GMT)
What we could do to get around shipping and tax, is wait until after a winner has been chosen, then the person who has collected the money and will be buying the guitar can order online from which ever country the winner is in, and have it delivered straight to the winner.

grijalva - February 18, 2006 09:02 PM (GMT)
Yeah, but lets say Mexico, how where would you find a place that ships it directly there?

RaSpBeRrY JaM - February 18, 2006 09:17 PM (GMT)
Good point, that would be a problem :(

grijalva - February 18, 2006 09:27 PM (GMT)
Well lets see how it turns out in jemsite before we do this.

Carlos, it's already been decided how it's gonna play on jemsite.
Once a winner is selected, he or she will receive a new jem or universe supplied by Rich Harris. Plus a $100 credit towards shipping with UPS. Anyone winning in the USA will not have any issues with that. Anyone outside will need to pay the extra shipping and tax. Personally I don't have an issue with that as $800 for a brand new jem is still a bargain.

Eric - February 19, 2006 10:54 AM (GMT)
wow, sorry guys for my late reply, it's a terribly bussy semester :(

But I really like the idea! Maybe we can ask a big guitar retailer to help us out on this... It's also advertising for them: "this contest is sponsored by ..."

about taxes: i don't know how it works, but do you have to pay taxes over contest gifts?

I think it would be a good idea to let axe or phry manage the money since I'm in the euro zone, and since the majority of the board pays with $$$

Axeshredder - February 19, 2006 11:58 AM (GMT)
well i have no problem in running it...as for shipping...i can have it directly shipped to the winner ....or ill play with it for a week then ship it internationally to anywhere..no prob.......just kidding on the playing part..lol

i just shipped a 10 pound box to china..it cost $50....so i can guess it would probably be$150 tthe most to ship anywhere

there shouldnt be any taxes

Ill see if a can find a site that will ship international

sridhar11_2 - February 19, 2006 12:14 PM (GMT)
One major site that ships international is Music123 but they dont ship certain products to certain places, like Ibanez to India. But if you're shipping using any company like Music123 as far as customs formalities go i'm pretty sure it'll be considered a sale and hence import duty will come in (which is pretty bad for me since i'll have to pay 40% of the value). Best thing is to get it shipped for free to someone in US and then ship it off maybe using USPS which is cheaper than other shipping companies. But in any case i'm screwed cause i'll be out of the running for a JS.

very jerry - February 19, 2006 02:49 PM (GMT)
great great idea, if you are going to do this I'm definetely in with 20$ :rock2:

Axeshredder - February 19, 2006 02:59 PM (GMT)
ive contacted music123 on where they ship to and it looks like the case is extra $89
but shipping is free

grijalva - February 19, 2006 03:55 PM (GMT)
Ok so the total would be $1457.48, and the shipping can be done with music123. Even if you pat like $100 more. I'd still buy a JS1200 for $120 ;) .

sridhar11_2 - February 19, 2006 05:09 PM (GMT)
Maybe you guys did'nt notice my post earlier. But music123 does not ship Ibanez guitars internationally. This is what i received when i contacted them.

"We can ship anywhere in the world but certain restrictions do apply. Certain manufacturers will not allow authorized dealers to ship their products internationally (specifically, ESP, Roland/Boss/Edirol, Fender/Gretsch/Jackson/Guild/Squier, Yamaha, Ernie Ball, Ibanez, Gibson/Epiphone, Paul Reed Smith, Rickenbacker, Behringer, Taylor, Line6, Digitech, DiMarzio, DOD, JBL and Lexicon). Also, we cannot ship oversized items. "[B]

Shipping a boxed hardshell case costs around $150 to the UK with USPS via Air Mail (4 to 10 days). Express shipping to UK with UPS will cost about $250. The weight is approx 30lbs.

As far as taxation goes, for the UK it's approx 24% in total (17.5% tax and rest goes to the EU, bastards!!!). If shipping with USPS, an additional clearance fee will be added by Parcel Force.

I've purchased several guitars and amps from America and this is what we will expect in costs. As far as a supplier goes, I'm sure Rich Harris can supply a JS for America, plus you'd get a full set-up and Edge Pro locking sted mod. Perhaphs we can find a main supplier within the EU, Australasia and Asia aswell?

Axeshredder - February 19, 2006 11:59 PM (GMT)
we are discussing the details...stay tuned

grijalva - February 20, 2006 12:26 AM (GMT)
