Title: Peavey Jsx

PatrickH - April 14, 2006 02:47 AM (GMT)
Hey, I plan on buying one of these babies around the start of summer. I really love everything I've gotten out of this amp whenever I play it, but I'd like to hear some reviews from you guys!

Main question in mind: Any tech problems, or breakdowns from frequent gigging?

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Well I don't own one (yet!) but I've played one serveral times at our local music store, and I love the tone I can get out of it. And that is with the cheap guitar's they have at the store. I also like that I can it can get a great tone without having to crank it (it does get better when cranked, but it still sounds good at a decent volume.)

What I'd really like to try is the JSX combo. For what I need, it would probably be perfect. I just haven't seen one in the wild yet.

I got my JSX combo today. First impression is great. But I've gotta test it for a while before I can give as useful review

I used to work for a Peavey Dealer, and I bought the first JSX combo that they brought in. All good luck with mine other than a small problem I'll mention below.

The next one that came into the store was DOA... But, it wasnt major, just 2 bad power amp tubes... I swapped them, checked the Bias and she fired up right away.

Now as per mine, after about 4 months of playing mine (on the road with my band) one night she died... I noticed no power jewel light, however my footswitch leds illuminated. AT first I thought the obvious, that the Power Jewel Light was burnt out. Nope.

Next thought was that the fuse in the back was dead. AGain, no....

(Oh, I forgot to mention, I had no sound coming from the amp, but the foot switch lights were on)

So, my fear was that it was a power transformer.. (was really scared)..

Long story short, there are a cluster of 4 or 5 fuses internally on the board, and one was dead (I believe about a 20amp fuse). I took it apart myself and 5 bucks later at Radio Shack, I was good to go.

Has been fine since.

So hope that helps your questions..
Cheers

I've had mine since about March, it was used before for a couple of months [6 months I think], I can't really say I have had any issues with it, however,
if you are on the road/giging then your needs and abuse to put to the amp will be totally different, I don't leave the house with mine [too heavy :P]

take care.

I have been playing my JSX head and cab probably for a year now but never had any problem with it.

I have been playing my JSX head and cab probably for a year now but never had any problem with it.

Isn't both the JSX combo or the head in combination with speakercab too loud for home purposes?

the combo has a switch on the back that will allow you to play at lower volumes. you can also control it quite well with the master volume. I do not think it is too loud [I live in an apartment with pretty thin walls]. As long as I am not playin in the middle of the night [that is what gutiar rig & headphone are for]. everything is good.

and you can find a JSX combo used for around 900$ so I think overall it's a great deal.
if only it wasn't so heavy :P [i.e. it weighs a ton]

+1 on the JSX Combo. I live in a townhouse and my amp is sitting in my living room and it can be nice and quiet even at full power. I can sit in my living room at 10 pm at night and still play it and when I want to crank it, the sucker can definitely scream.

Guys, guys..... I ordered myself the JSX Combo!!!

Yihaa, can't wait for it to arrive at the shop.

Is there a topic where I can find more gathered info about settings, experiences and tips? that would be much appreciated here!

Cheers

ps: I would like to see some pics of your babies if that's possible :P

I just got the JSX Namm Prototype (with the diamond skin and the red light tubes inside the head) just like the one Joe has and it sounds really better than I expected. The clean channel is perfect!
