I hate religious nutters, no matter what religion they are.
odd trio - May 10, 2006 06:39 PM (GMT)
theres a lot of them around too. if you told them what kind of music you listen to , they probably get suspicious like you listen to ''devils music'' or some such @#$$% :fuckyou:
Satch Boogie - May 10, 2006 08:32 PM (GMT)
Yup, I listen to metal, so I must be a satanist :fuckyou: :rock2:
These religous nutters are so fucking righteous! I have one in my family, all you ever hear is God this and God that and what evil things that everyone else does. Fuck 'em all I say. If I was president of the world, I'd ban religion (being an atheist) :smoke2:

I realize this is the Off The Topic Forum but I feel impelled to post a reply. I just became a member of the Satriani Forum and have done my best to make a decent contribution to this community. But I must say that I'm rather disturbed by this post and the replies. I don't agree with the woman in the video. I strongly disagree with her. But to post replies like, “I hate religious nutters, no matter what religion they are,” and “Fuck 'em all I say. If I was president of the world, I'd ban religion (being an atheist).” Guys come on. The United States Bill of Rights 1st Amendment guarantees the Freedom of Religion whether you agree with it or not. This country was founded on Christian beliefs. Even the United Nations (and I’m not a big UN fan) declared on 12/10/48 "Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship, and observance." I attend a Christian Church every Sunday with my wife and children. And I also love Joe’s music and listen to him almost every day. The type of music you listen to doesn’t make you a Satanist. Let’s allow Congress do away with the Freedom of Religion because we don’t like the idea. Then maybe after that they can start telling us what kind of music to listen to also. I love the United States of America and all the freedoms that my forefathers gave me. I’m proud to be an American. We’re not perfect. But we have life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. And thank God we have the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. I hope that I haven’t offended anyone. It wasn’t my intention to do so. I just had to respond to this post. God Bless America. And Joe, you still rock!!!
Satch Boogie - May 11, 2006 08:21 AM (GMT)
Sorry, but I don't live in America. It is different here in England. Of course this is a Christian country and there are plenty of followers, but people are starting to see religion in a different light. Most people will call themselves Church of England, but only step foot in a church once or twice a year. More and more people are becoming atheist, and in my opinion, quite rightly so.
I as an athiest I also have "rights" and I believe that religion causes the majority of the world's problems and will be the cause for the next world war. I also hate the way that religion is used to control people, i.e. if you do this, you will burn in hell, or if you do that you will be reborn as a lower being in your next life. Perlease! If your religion needs to use control by fear, then I say it is evil.
I am also sick of things being done in the name of religion. People's heads being chopped off live on the internet, suicide bombers on buses, outside night clubs, on tubes, airliners being flown into buildings. And that's just by members of one religion, let's not talk about the Christian Crusades!
I must however apologise to the moderate followers though. I have tied all moderates with what I call the "nutters", I apologise for that. The way I see this is quite simple. If you are willing to kill someone else simply because of their beliefs don't agree with yours, then in my book, you are a nutter!
Eric - May 11, 2006 07:26 PM (GMT)
I'm also an atheist, but I do respect those who believe in God, Allah or Buddha, but as a life vision. We can learn from the torah/bible/koran, but we should not interpret it literally imho, but merely as a way to virtuousness. Some people need this secure/familiar pavement, others think they can deal with life themselves.
Additionally, I think there's a big difference between the US en europe: in europe the secularization rate is very high. I don't know anyone who goes to church these days! I think this is pretty unimaginable for very many people from the US, isn't it?
@ rwscull: you didn't offend anyone by stating your opinion! That's why this is called a discussion board!
I'll keep an eye on this topic and I will take action if it inclines to get out of hand...

@ rwscull: Those are all good points I just don't understand why did you have to state that you are proud to be American? What's that got to do with this?

The woman in the video was an American who was protesting the War in Iraq. So my whole slant on the post and the video came from an American perspective. I got caught up in the response and forgot to consider the fact that there are many members from other nations on board at the Satriani Forums. Guess that's why they call it theWorld Wide Web. : )

I read something interesting recently about some christian missionaries from the middle ages. In their journey to spread the word of God, they went to a northern country (I don't know which) where it is very cold all year round, and they told the people there of a place where fire burned eternally. The reaction of the people was, "how do we get there?".
Onkel Cannabia - May 12, 2006 10:43 PM (GMT)
Well she's a nutter, that's out of the question, but I have a kind of off topic question:
Is the way they talk to that woman normal in interviews in the US? I'm just wondering, cuz in germany they're always polite and try to stay as neutral as posssible and let the viewer form his own opinion. But in that interview they told that woman that she's nuts and laughed at her - Not that she didn't deserve it though ;)
So my question is : Does that happen often in the US, that a moderator insults someone and talks very biased or was that just an exception because she is such a nutter?
Bahamut - May 12, 2006 11:01 PM (GMT)
I have nothing against religious ppl, but i have no interest for it myself :fuckyou: I remember sticking down on a job application under religion "SithLord", haha the bloke who was interviewing me looked at me like i had a screw loose(i probably do  ), saying that , "SithLord" is just as believable as Jesus, or The Virgin mary, imo ppl just use it as a excuse because they fear death, them thinking there is something beyond life gives them comfort  I can't really argue it either way, there is no real proof, i guess we all take to diffrent things, my religion is my music, thats all i need ;) Oh that and plenty of beer , plus a gorgeus selection of women :P :rock2:

The news here in the US is VERY slanted/biased. It all depends which news network you watch is to what slant you will get. Most of the news networks have a more liberal bias. Honestly, there really is no neutral news. The closest I have gotten to neutral was Fox News, and even that has a conservative bias. So to answer your question, news moderators here in the US generally do not leave the viewers to make their own decision, they try to lead it with their biases.

that's also what I was wondering... this is REALLY unthinkable in Holland. Is this the FOX way of interviews? (although I think it's fairly justified in this case!)
thanks JS1200 for clarifying that.... biased news...

It does on Fox! Fox News is to Legit News what Professional Wrestling is to sports. Like I said in my earlier post, that was the first tim I have ever watched Fox news and thought that a guest was crazier and meaner that the host!
js1200ca - May 13, 2006 03:51 PM (GMT)
Another aspect that one must realize about the news here in the states is also which political party is in office. With a republican run government right now, the liberal media is more apt to make the economic conditions, the job the President is doing, and state of the union look as if we are in as bad shape as post-cold war Russia. When a democratic president is in office, the vast media reported as if the country was the best economic shape that it could be in, which wasn't exactly the case. The problem with American politics is that there is no "middle ground" where the two main political parties can meet. It's either you are a conservative republican, or you are a liberal democrat. Both sides work so much against eachother so that nothing positive ever gets accomplished. So that adds to the problem with the American media. You have to take your news here with a grain of salt, because 99% of what you are hearing has some form of slant on it, whether it be conservative or liberal. It is really quite sad.

hahaha, you can pretty much throw all the other news networks in there too. everything today is about entertaining your viewers, not necessarily giving you ALL the details.

It's not just the FOX way, its the American Media way of interviews. And please don't lump ALL of us Americans in with these views. The fact is that the American media is as far away from reality as it gets! This is why Americans get such a bad reputation over in europe, because everyone tends to see "the worst 1%" of the population, rather than the "normal 99%" of the population. If you get to know us, we really aren't that bad.
