Title: What Do Yall Think About Rap?
Description: It's not music

shan - May 18, 2006 02:17 AM (GMT)
I grew up listening to that garbage until I saw the light...from Joe's chromeboy!!
Most of my friends still listen to it and I dont know why, and I've even introduced them to Joe's music. Who am I to judge? I don't need to judge, rap is just pure shit :D and most people who listen to that crap is ignorant or in someway ignorant because of the negativity of the lyrics. NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS WILL THOSE LAZY RAPPING BASTARDS can do what Joe does. It's not real music, it's just rap, which is shit. I'm sure you've all seem some rappers perform somewhere, whether is on Tv or something but yea, all they do is talk with a mic with their pants down and walk around. It pisses me off thinking about how much work joe went through and those lazy rapping bastards make money by just talking about bullshit. But hey, there's a bright side, they are all killing each other! Why? maybe it has to do with where they are from or something stupid like that, ha.

js1200ca - May 18, 2006 03:55 AM (GMT)
IMO, Rap is CRAP!!!

sridhar11_2 - May 18, 2006 06:47 AM (GMT)
I hate the crap thats on tv these days but i still like hip hop. The worst thing is the Gansta rap bullshit on tv.

Rap is crap but hip hop is good. "I like big butts and i cannot lie"

richardsim7 - May 18, 2006 07:12 AM (GMT)
Eminem's old stuff was awesome, it had meaning in it, not like his new crap :(

-Rich-

shan - May 18, 2006 08:14 AM (GMT)
One member of eminem's "posse" recently just died. lol. He got murdered. Yep, you guessed it, he was shot after going to a club. So so typical. ha. :P

Wow, I'm impressed. You can still like any other music after hearing joe ;) . I have no other tunes in my head now except for joe and vai, and some metallica when I'm pissed off ^_^

There was a time when all i listened to was Joe 24/7. But the main problem in listening and being influenced by just one type of music is that all you can play is that type of music. If you listen to some of my clips you know that i'm pretty much a satriani clone music wise (stealing rythms, riffs, leads). Thats why i decided to stop listening to joe (not completely) for a while and broaden my musical horizon beyond joe's type of music.

Avalon - May 18, 2006 09:20 AM (GMT)
Well its like all types of music, some of it is ok, other stuff is dribble.
Lyricly some Rap is quite good, but generally its not my scene, a good example of decent rap is Aerosmith's Walk This Way, with Run DMC (i think thats there name), thats a cool song.
As i said though, the rest isn't really my scene.

Bahamut - May 18, 2006 09:32 AM (GMT)
Can't stand it  There really isn't much to listen to with todays bands, most of the vocalists have weak voices, you see bits of kids strumming a guitar fast thinking they are fantastic, music really is at a low in the Uk. When i saw DP back in 2002 , they had like some musicians as a warmup act to them, they were called the Planets(if memory serves me correct  ), they were great, doing alot of classical inspired music and mixing it with some rock :rock2: But that is about the best ive seen from todays generation of musicians :o

cube - May 18, 2006 01:34 PM (GMT)
on the flipside.. guys like mos def are artist.. the way he twist the meter of his tracks is insane.
guys like the late "ol dirty bastard" created his own thing..
even will i am used to be great.. the roots are stellar
its like all music.. there are some shiity groups and some great groups.

You know, doesn't it strike you as perhaps a little tasteless to be making jokes about someone getting shot to death simply because you don't like the music they play?

I'm kind of mixed. I'm not really a rap "fan," per se, but I can at least appreciate some of it. I'm a big G Love & Special Sauce fan (acoustic-based hip-hop, "Rodeo Clowns," the track G did with Jack Johnson that kicked off Johnson's career is probably the track everyone would know), but that's about as close as I really come...

That sad, I can still hear the difference between quality and crap in the genre. Guys who rap about, oh, bitches and ho's, and shooting people and how rich they are and all that crap, that gets old pretty fast (for instance, I never understood the appeal of 50 Cent). However, Eminem I can at least appreciate on a lyrical level - "White America" is positively scathing, and most likely true as well - and there's some other stuff out there where they're actually singing aoutsomething rather than just rapping about how badass they are. Another good track to check out for those of you not into rap is Spearhead's "Oh My God," a piano driven track with sort of jazzy drumming going on in the background that again is pretty lyrically sound. I've never heard anything else by the band, but if that song is indicative I really want to hear some more.

Like any genre, there's usually at least elements that are redeeming. Again, I'm hardly a rap "fan" but there's definitely some rap I can stand to listen to, and making statements like "rap is crap" doesn't really tell anyone anything, you know?

Actually, this is one of the most ignorant posts I've ever read here. You are biased and close-minded as well...You are happy that people are getting killed? There is something seriously wrong with you. You should seriously consider deleting your post. Guess what?...Joe listens to rap too!!! He embraces all musical styles and doesn't hold negative , close-minded, ignorant opinions about different genres. He surely wouldn't agree with your "opinion". Grow up.

joe listens to rap? thats interesting. i listen to the ''conscious hip hop'' occasionally where they talk about things going down in society. instead of ''news''. get educated...

Drew - May 18, 2006 06:47 PM (GMT)
 Don't kill the poor guy, hopefully a polite "you know, that's really not cool" is enough to get the point across.

Honestly, Satch is far and away my favorite guitarist, the vast majority of my listening time goes to other artists - the new Tool and OSI have been on heavy rotation of late, as has DT's cover of Floyd's "Dark Side..." And when I'm in a more mellow mood, I've been listening to Tom Waits' "Mule Variations" and Boards of Canada's "The Campfire Headphase." In the car, either one of a few Stones albums or the Boy Hits Car selftitled, depending on mood. Honestly, it's probably been a month or so since I've spun a Satch album.

im doing a similar thing now. listening to Joe and Dream theater all day n night. but im in a death metal band, which is a total change to me. but i still know what i wanna end up playin(instrumental), and ill never let that get overtaken by any other genre of music.

as for rap, it's İrap. all they do is İrap along with some half naked girls dancin around them, and show off their "bling bling"!

You don't actually have many friends that listen to rap obviously. ALL my friends listen to rap and they are fucking retards. They can even pass middle school math and all they do is smoke weed and listen to "rap" while doing it. They treat women like shit. CONSTANTLY (95% of the time when they open their mouths) talking about fucking them and just something you would hear from a prurient 10 year old. They also have this obsession with spending their money into crap cars. They can't even speak a god damn proper sentence ok?!? Using words like nigga and hella. WHAT THE FUCK, those two terms are so annoying. If you really analyze the rap songs that are actually "good", the "computer generated" beats are just fucking loops over and over again, and anyone can sit down and write lyrics that somehow may be "influential". The good rap songs may be good, but I know none of you people hear ACTUALLY really like the songs like you do with joe's songs. His songs actually took time, thought, education, consistence (esp learning to play the guitar like that). Joe listens to rap? lol. Maybe when he brushes across a radio station for 2 secs. You need to open your eyes and see the truth you god damn hippie.

I'm not making jokes about someone because of they music they compose. I'm making a joke because that retard died for a stupid reason. Like i said, he died after going to a club. He probably got into a fight with some other people from a differently side of the country and they just shot him. I think he was around 23-26 years old when he died. If someone dies at that age, that person DESERVES to die.
You must be soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo stupid. It's like walking into a bear trap. People with down syndrome live more than that idiot.

That other guy is a god damn hippy. Sure if joe wants to listen to rap, he can, but that would mean that he was somehow influenced (haha) by rap. Then shouldn't he in someway present that? I don't think he was rapping in the G3 tour. What the fuck would he use his guitar for then? I don't think joe dislikes or likes rap but I think he doesn't care for it at ALL. It's such a shitty genre of music that it's neglible. Can you imagine a rapping joe? lol. Of course he wouldn't approve of my opinions either because they are my opinions. But what do I care about his approval? He's not my dad is he? haha. That hippy guy is a suck up retard.

Bahamut - May 18, 2006 11:01 PM (GMT)
Hehe there is a saying that goes like this " to comment on diffrent aspects of music you first have to understand them all" , lol that bares no actual view but sounded good  I don't try to knock what ppl listen to, sometimes it is very odd what ppl see in various bands and there music, but its upto that individual ;) I just listen to what i enjoy, regardless of anyone else :rock2:

Its good that you're trying something different atleast. Death metal is'nt my cup of tea you know. Too many people want to do death metal now. Only a few bands like Junkyard Groove,Thermal and a Quarter,Liquid Groove,Zero play good rock/blues stuff not only headbanging crap. I've been searching for a band to play mainly hard rock/classic rock/blues kinda stuff but everyone's interested in only metal.
But the funniest thing i've seen is some idiots trying to sing rap songs with their indian accents. Man was that funny. I'm pretty sure people listen to rap cause its COOL rather than it being good.

I'm now mainly listening to stuff like Ozzy,Pink Floyd,Blue Oyster Cult,Mattias IA Eklundh (funny thing is that when he toured india he acknowledged that Eklundh meant "one dick"),Creedence Clearwater Revival,Al Di Meaola.etc.

About rap not influencing anything. Well it does work the other way round. Think about Vanilla Ice and David Bowie.

Death metal is..... eh. Not much creative composition with those head bangers. Wonder why? Banging their heads to much i guess. It's mostly power chords with palm muting, and what's with the lead singers? They sound like they are tearing their vocal chords, jeez. Nothing genius and expressive like joe's!

Shan, get ahold of yourself. This isn't exactly a good way to introduce yourself to a musician community, you know? Chill.

Motorcycle_Driver - it's absolutely incredible. They really hit it dead-on, down to the guest sax solo and chick background singer. I'm not sure which is more amazing, listening to LaBrie sing with restraint, or listening to Portnoy play with restraint, lol, but they do it absolutely true to the spirit of the original, while still adding their own flair.

@shan..... Death Metal never appealed to me cause i feel that kinda music is about aggression only. But you cant listen to it all the time. Sure once in a while its great listening to someone scream in anger but not all the time. Even if i did like a song i could never headbang , all i do is nod my head slightly and tap my feet. Thats about as expressive i get.

It's such a shitty genre of music that it's neglible. Can you imagine a rapping joe? lol. Of course he wouldn't approve of my opinions either because they are my opinions. But what do I care about his approval? He's not my dad is he? haha. That hippy guy is a suck up retard.

You sure about that? Either way, there's a difference between being right and being an asshole. Starting a thread to tell the world how much you hate rap, and then calling anyone who disagrees a "hippy suck up retard" is, at the very least, leaning rather strongly towards the later. ;)

Well stupid people piss me off. They always have an opinion but can't justify it. There is also a line between what's "right" and the "truth". What's right can always be modified, but the truth can never. Yea, the truth can be a bitch or asshole or however you feel like it is. By the way, your girlfriend is your sister! Sucks doesn't it?

Joe listens to all types of music, and actually, you can hear a hip hop element in his guitar playing, especially when he simulates record scratches from rap tunes with his pick scratches a la Cool #9(live versions are best to hear this) and also, if you listen to the new record, you can hear a lot of Joe's scratching....Joe listens to electronica and techno. How do you think he came up with Engines of Creation? If he listens to those genres, why wouldn't he listen to rap/hip hop? Do your research, kid. Not all rap falls under the 'gangsta rap' label, and not all rappers rap about killing and money and "ho's". Ever heard of A Tribe Called Quest, The Beastie Boys, Del Tha Funky Homosapien, The Roots, De La Soul etc etc etc etc? I'd love for you to listen to A Tribe Called Quest's 'I Left My Wallet In El Segundo', and then try to find me one little spec of anything remotely related to gangsta rap... The list goes on and on. There are so many rap and hip hop groups out there who aren't even remotely close to the whole gangsta rap thing, and who are doing it for the love of music rather than for the wrong reasons. The Roots are awesome....They actually make their own music and are talented musicians who don't use fabricated digital beats and basslines. Oh and I'm sure you've heard of the group Rage Against The Machine, who I suspect you also have banged your head to on numerous occasions...Have you ever actually heard Zach De La Rocha sing one note? Guess what, homeslice? He's RAPPING!!!!! And a lot of Tom Morello's guitar work is influenced by rap and hip hop tunes...probably the majority of it, and he has stated so in interviews...So, I guess, under your biased umbrella, they must suck too... You obviously got your edumacation from watching too much MTV...Wow, a 'suck up retard'..What an intelligent, informed remark, much like the 'goddamn hippie' comment ... Thanks for sharing...Maybe you would be more comfortable and welcomed flaming kids your age on the '12 year old AOL'er' forums. Explore the world beyond your room in your parents' basement, and you will discover a whole new world of music, and maybe then you will stop being so arrogant and close- minded. Your negativity and narrow minded drivel only exposes your hollow, immature personality...And the juvenile flaming didn't help your case either. Have a nice day, kiddo. :rock2:

haha, record scratches with pick scratches? Is that all? WOW, I'm sure that was ALL joe was influenced by rap. You moron. Beastie boys? Roots? De La soul? You actually like those people? Like I said, no distinctive composition with these rappers. Their music is as bland as a paper bag. A computer generated background music that's looped over and over again. I never said Joe was heavily influenced by Rap, but you can hear that element in some of his tunes. Actually, the Roots don't use 'computer generated background music that's looped over and over again'. They actually play instruments, and their beats are all done by a live drummer, their basslines by a real live bass player, and the samples and scratches you think are computer generated are actually done by a real live human being too. He's an incredible human beat box as well. Like I said before, do your research before trying to claim your "opinion' as 'the truth'. I never said Joe was heavily influenced by rap, but you can hear that element in some of his tunes. Joe's pick scratching is a technique, yes, and he obviously exploits that technique to get record scratching sounds similar to one's found in hip hop/rap songs, much like Tom Morello did in Rage Against The Machine. If you would listen to Joe's music, you would hear that...but I guess you spend most of your time joing internet forums just to pick fights and make enemies...Try to listen to aforementioned material...if you can fit it into your hectic schedule. Wow, making fun of my username and flaming me with petty namecalling....real original.

Let me clarify for you:

'Internet troll'
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

'In Internet terminology, a troll is someone who comes into an established community such as an online discussion forum, and posts inflammatory, rude or offensive messages designed to intentionally annoy and antagonize the existing members or disrupt the flow of discussion as their only purpose (see Anonymous Internet posting).'
