Description: Info about pentatonics
AverageJoeguitarist - June 15, 2005 08:16 PM (GMT)
Hi, today im going to tell ya bout pentatonics (Not like anyone here doesnt know but wehhey anywayss) lol
Well pentatonic comes frm a greek word Pent which means five as the pentatonic has 5 tones in it..
well lets just get on with it:
Also another note: The notes in this minor pentatonic will be all around the neck so look out for them and experiment with the notes try bending one not the another
like the 6th note to the 7th to give a bluesy sort of sound..
(6th to 7th as in the major scale, You know do, re, mi, fa, sol, la, TI, do)

Also note that i do not have 24 frets lol :D
Well thats it...
if you want to change key, the first position (Position 1)
the first root note which is fret 5 on the bottom E string is a note of A
so the key is in a move it down a semitone (One fret) it is in the key A Sharp (A#) or B Flat.. the same with the others just continuse the pattern as you would the first one!..
Hope people find this usefull..
AJG..

Some of your patterns seem wrong, below are my retakes on some of your examples:
Exmaple 1: A Minor pentatonic
-----------------------------------------------5---8-----------------------------
---------------------------------------5----8------------------------------------
-------------------------------5----7--------------------------------------------
-----------------------5----7----------------------------------------------------
--------------5----7-------------------------------------------------------------
-----5----8----------------------------------------------------------------------
Example 2 : A Minor pentatonic----looks to me like A Major Pentatonic
-----------------------------------------------7---9-----------------------------
---------------------------------------7----9------------------------------------
-------------------------------6----8--------------------------------------------
-----------------------6----9----------------------------------------------------
--------------6----9-------------------------------------------------------------
-----7----9----------------------------------------------------------------------

Would help if you said whihc ones it was :S lol :P
im pretty sure there right? there the same scale but with 5 diff shapes etc.. in the key of A there are 5 diff shapes in the key of A on there minor pentaonioc if it was major i would start at A root not and start the pentatonic 3 frets up than it woul dbe a major pentatonic...
AverageJoeguitarist - June 15, 2005 09:02 PM (GMT)
holy shit
I FEEL ASHAMED NOW LOL I MADE MISTAKES!
FUCK SORRY *GOES AN EDITS*
hjk - June 15, 2005 09:15 PM (GMT)
Position 2 : A Minor pentatonic
-------------------------------------------------8---10-----------------------------
---------------------------------------8----10------------------------------------
--------------------------------7----9--------------------------------------------
-----------------------7----10----------------------------------------------------
--------------7----10-------------------------------------------------------------
-----8----10----------------------------------------------------------------------
8 fret low e string =c
Therefore the above pattern is c major pentatonic
AverageJoeguitarist - June 15, 2005 09:18 PM (GMT)
huh :S my 2 is right now i think :P
hjk - June 15, 2005 09:28 PM (GMT)
If you start pattern 2 by playing on the 8th fret of the low e-string you are playing the c major scale.
AverageJoeguitarist - June 15, 2005 09:29 PM (GMT)
yup becuase youve now made the root now C and the notes you using in the A minor are also in the C major scale :P
hjk - June 15, 2005 09:36 PM (GMT)
Position 2 : A Minor pentatonic
-----------------------------------------------8---10-----------------------------
---------------------------------------8----10(a)--------------------------------
-------------------------------7----9--------------------------------------------
-----------------------7----10----------------------------------------------------
--------------7----10-------------------------------------------------------------
-----©8----10-------------------------------------------------------------------
So you would have to start on the 10th fret of the b string to make it an A minor pentatonic....??
And what about the other A note in the above scale (d string 8th fret)
PS would be nice if u showed where the rote was
AverageJoeguitarist - June 15, 2005 09:47 PM (GMT)
no you dont have to because all of those notes are in the key of A so it doesnt a matter and next time i will show the notes thanks for the tip :)
Its actually preferential dude... try it and see what you get.. :P
Meqz - October 2, 2005 01:15 AM (GMT)

PhryDom - October 27, 2005 05:30 AM (GMT)
sorry, but this looks like stuff copied from a website / magazine / both, with no understanding of the underlying theory / reasons why
no offence, but you don't really seem (to me!) to have taught anybody anything....
if anyone differs, please say so!
AverageJoeguitarist - October 28, 2005 08:14 PM (GMT)
i told people a pentatonic scale position they can use in a certain key.. i dont want to get into advanced theory as it is a begginer lesson i fthey really want to know so much more thay can google it... its only outlining the main positions for the shapes of the pentatonic positions.. i did not say advanced in anyway... also i have onlyu been playing 2 years nearly im not a thoery god... (yet mwhwha :P  )
