Title: What Program Do You Use To Record, edit Etc??

satrianifreak - June 6, 2006 08:50 AM (GMT)
hey.. what program do you use to record your stuff? I use cool edit and basically use the mic in, in my sound blaster sound card.

By the way does anyone know if cool edit supports recording via ASIO?

richardsim7 - June 6, 2006 01:53 PM (GMT)
I use Adobe Audition, using my PODxt Live's USB out, works great :D

I use either Tunafish or Fruity Loops to create my backing section, then record all the guitars and do the mixing in Kristal

Regarding ASIO in Cool Edit, I found this:

CEP 1.0 and 2.0 do not support ASIO or EASI. They both support MME, and the new CEP 2.0 supports WDM sound card drivers.

I work in Cakewalk Sonar 3.0, and do drum sequencing in Fruity Loops as well.

Editing, believe it or not I mostly use Goldwave. I need to track down a version of Sound Forge, though, I've got an old one on my laptop and it's bar-none the best editor for making loops I've ever used.

I use Audacity most of the time. I do have Cubase sx2 and Kristal and most of the other recording programs lol. but Audacity is great for just laying down a simple riff.

lol .. thanks dude..you actually looked it up online ^_^ .... i spent 45 mins trying to figure out where the option is in cool edit and then gave up ...

I use Computer Muzy's for my backing work, and Audacity for recording covers and adding guitars to a BT.

Most probably i am the one using the oldest software in here...I use Cakewalk Pro Audio for all recording and mixing, Jammer Pro 4 for all my backing tracks and drums (MIDI output), and record my guitar straight in through Zoom Gfx 8 using amp modelling.

Can anyone here provide feedback about how bad(or good) is Cakewalk? I find it simple and easy to use so i dont complain.! B)

PhryDom - June 7, 2006 02:55 PM (GMT)
I LOVE Cakewalk products! I used to use Sonar for everything, but now can't afford to buy a copy :(

I love how the MIDI and audio are right next to each other, I had a rack of external synths and modules all permanently connected to it, software synths, plugins, everything. Now that I'm using Kristal I REALLY miss the MIDI side of things. There's talk of MIDI coming in the next version of Kristal so I'm waiting patiently ;)

I use Cubase SX3....Iīm a Cubase freak....I dabelled with Sonar Cakewalk but I hated it....it was awful for me....mainly I suppose because I had used Cubase 5 before I changed to Cakewalk.
I find SX3 very easy to set-up and very easy to use.Itīs so easy to use that a monkey wouldnīt have problems with it.Also with SX3 you can record audio,Mix and Master your tracks but for that I either go to an expert or I use Wavelab 6.SX3 is very professional IMO and is right up there with Nuendo or Pro-Tools and it also gives you the ability to do 5.1 mixes also if one desires....
Now the Soundcard that Iīm using is EMU 1820M and I love....it has 2 mic pre-amps on it and 12-16 inputs....2 mic and the rest Line inputs....This card captures my sound beautifully but I use a Shure SM58 mic as Iīll be putting a solo on the Jam with Axeshredder track....IMO it think SX3 is a fantastic program....It even has a video tutorial to help you set everything up but again itīs different strokes for different folks....
Hope it helps..... :beer3:

I use Tracktion 2 to record and a demo of BFD for drums. Guitar currently runs through either a podxt or a zoom G2.

I think any and all problems with the results are down to me not having a clue what I'm doing rather than the cheap software solution!

Bahamut - June 23, 2006 01:13 PM (GMT)
I use Audacity, simple and effective ;)

jerry - June 23, 2006 07:57 PM (GMT)
lol I feel cheap. I use the emulated headphones from my amp into the line in of my Realtek AC97 onboard soundcard, and I use the free software Audacity to record. It's good. :D

Yip thats cheap...but how about this....my first demo that I recorded I didnīt have any recording gear....I blagged my friend into recording me and using all his gear so I wouldnīt have to cough up the cash to buy all the stuff that I needed....what was also great is that my friend didnīt ask for any cash....Happy Days :P B) :D :)

Some generic Marshall crate. It says "MG series 15 CDR" on it.

I use Cubase SX3. I recently sold my Boss BR-1600 CD digital 16 track and went completly PC computer base. I love the program. Fairly east to use and is really a great piece of recording software. I would highly recomend it

I have Audition 1,5 - and it is very simple to use ...
Play through an Edirol soundcard, and so far so good.

One major problem is that if you buy a new computer with Vista, you need to buy a new versoin of Audition :( which I can't afford yet.
So do all my recording on an old PC.

GGoTr - May 19, 2008 10:15 AM (GMT)
I'm using Cubase 4 Essentials. Kinda great program for that price. I use Cubase since I know that program. This program includes all you need. You can create drum tracks, record your guitars and u have a great mixing section.

And you get a lot of plugins like reverb, deley, compression, limiting and so on and on, ever for free.

If you need Instruments like bass, synthesizers, drum machines and so ons, you can load them via VSTi Instruments, a few even for free.

All you need is a good soundcard with ASIO, cause if the latency is to high, recording and mixing is a pain in the ass.

antonis - May 20, 2008 07:57 PM (GMT)
right now sonar, but i am gonna probably try cubase

tschommer - May 21, 2008 02:10 AM (GMT)
GarageBand, because it's cheap, easy to use and has pretty good built in drum loops.

I just got into Pro Tools LE a few weeks ago... OMG Its so amazing. I have the Mbox2 mini, and just for the software alone its worth the money I spent on it. I had been using Logic 7 and 8 for a long time and I was frustrated with it. The editing capability is easy and fast, sound quality is amazing, keyboard shortcuts rock, the capabilities with the tempo grid, beat detective and the new elastic tool are just..... wow.... I don't even know where to start (awesome drum plugins, synths, compressors, etc, I also use "Addictive Drums"). Its just amazing :-)

Check out the howto videos on digidesign.com, it got me hooked before I even purchased the thing lol.

Not as fancy schmancy as some of you guys. I use a Roland VS-1824cd. I play to a click and then add a real drummer. You can here some of it here:
