Crispsandwich - June 17, 2006 09:21 AM (GMT)
Great show! I loved the extended AWMAWY. My view was slightly marred by two drunk tossers jumping up and down all over the place towards the end. This poor girl tried to get past them but ended up getting elbowed in the face and kicked as they jumped up and down, seemingly ignoring her. She had to push through them. That really wound me up. Did you notice a lot of people getting up during the show? Or turning up just as it started? Lots were where I was sat. I'll never understand the mentality of people who leave it right until the main act comes on before coming in and trying to find their seats in the dark and blocking the view of people.
Great show though. Johnny A was great too. I loved his tone. He reminded me of Eric Johnson, although I'd have preferred to see the latter in all honesty :).

That's a great picture bud! What camera did you use? Interested in exchanging pictures? I also have some "good" ones (see the topic about amsterdam). Please mail me at eric [AT] satrianiforum [DOT] com! Thanks :)

Probably of topic so sorry for that but that reminds me an interview from several years ago with Joe, in Guitar Player I think, in wich he stated that he had to play his songs live exactly as on CD because the majority of his audience are attentif guitar players themselves.
I attended the Extremist-tour in Anwterp - also some years ago  - and Joe was playing the songs exactly as on the CD.
But now during the Super Collossal tour he indeed added some supplementary licks in AMWAWY (and other songs) and that made me very happy.

Absolutely amazing night. Second best gig I've been to ever.
He did extentions to practically every song, and they were brilliant. In alot of the songs I ended up going into a kind of transe, which was really odd, lol.
After the gig, I decided to go outside the stage doors... Jeff came out first, whom I enthusiastically went over to, and got a signing, a hug, and a photo - He seemed a really nice guy. It was around 2 hours before Satch came out, which was quite a while but worth it. Had a little chat with him, got a signature, and shook his hand, then got moved on by some security guard...
It was a brilliant night, one of the things to cross of my "10 things to do before I die" list, lol.
You wouldn't think the dude was 50 - jeez.
Bye. Thanks.
Eric - June 18, 2006 10:16 AM (GMT)
brilliant pictures mate! Definitely the best I've seen until now!!!
Johnny B - June 18, 2006 11:52 AM (GMT)
Was at the Manchester Apollo on Friday. Excellent show.
Enjoyed Johnny A's set, especially when he included loads of classic rock references in his final number.
Joe's performance was incredible. He never disappoints.
The photos posted on this page are superb, I was upstairs so the view was not that good. Thanks for sharing those.
Did anyone note the set list?
Crispsandwich - June 18, 2006 08:17 PM (GMT)
I got:
Flying in a Blue Dream
The Extremist
Redshift Riders
Satch Boogie
Just Like Lightnin'
It's So Good
One Robot's Dream
Super Colossal
Circles
The Mystical Potato Head Groove Thing
Always With Me, Always With You
Surfing With the Alien
Crowd Chant
Summer Song
That's entirely from memory so apologies if I've missed any out or got the order wrong. It would be my dream setlist if he'd have replaced Just Like Lightnin' and One Robot's Dream with Crushing Day and Time Machine. And if he'd added Midnight and Ten Words to the setlist. I'd sell a kidney for the moolah for a show with that setlist :).
weimond - June 18, 2006 09:20 PM (GMT)
i think you may have missed mystical potatoe head groove thing. cos i think he played that yesterday at the newcastle show
Crispsandwich - June 18, 2006 09:29 PM (GMT)
Ah yes, I knew I'd forgot at least one. I'll edit it.

Yes the hat is there to buy. £20 it costs tho.
There is also a white t-shirt with the super colossal drawing on it and tour dates on the back. A black t-shirt with the super colossal guitar on front and dates on the back. A black jacket hoody thing (£60) and a black long sleeve t-shirt. you can also get a signed poster and pendants and things.
oh and johnny a cds are for sale and he signs them if you buy them after his set has finished, well he did last night in glasgow anyhow!

+1 ... and point taken wamaii...
Around 1995 and two years later, Joe started to be more flexible with the originals.
(please others do correct me if I'm wrong here)
Anyways, the best version of Always i've ever heard too....
odd trio - June 20, 2006 06:58 PM (GMT)

From what I remember the Manchester set was something like this. I was sat way far to the back to tell but im quite(??) sure that he played the section of Robots dream with a black JS. It certainly didnt shine as much as the chrome boy at the end.

Wow nice camera man! Those are excellent pictures. What camera do you have?
Satch Boogie - July 9, 2006 11:44 AM (GMT)
Went to the Birmingham show. Thought it was excellent. And even thought Johnny A's set was excellent. Was initially disappointed that we didn't get EJ over here, but JA was good, I'd definately go see him again.
Just wanted to make two observations though:
1) Joe's rhythm guitarist looked SOOOO bored! At times I thought he was going to fall asleep!
2) Who else though the bass player looked like the Lion from The Wizard of Oz? :D
rygelxvi - July 9, 2006 05:53 PM (GMT)
