Title: Backing Track Software???

milicj - October 4, 2006 10:54 PM (GMT)
Would anyone know a program used to make mp3 backing tracks?? I've heard you can take the melody out of satriani or other songs. Would anyone know names of programs???

Mp3's aren't anything but data. It can't distinguish between "melody", "drums", "rhythm", etc.. The most you can ever do is cut out some frequencies here and there, but that rarely does all too much without effecting everything else drastically. Or, you can go to the recording studio and get all the master tapes >_>

actually there are lots of programs available that reverse the phase of one channel of a stereo file.

when you play back both channels anything that was panned dead centre disappears.

this is how many karaoke programs work because the vocals are generally in the middle. the bass, kick & snare often disappear too for the same reason.

one could potentially make backing tracks in this way (although some parametric and/or very narrow Q graphic equalisation might be needed too).

pretty much any half-decent audio editor can do it.

i have cool edit pro (now called something else i believe cos they were bought out by [i think] sony) which can do it. wavelab probably can. i think there's a program with the word gold in its name too that can probably do it.

maybe even freebies can too, like kristal and audacity.

:)
