Title: Gnx3 or Gnx4?

mr.vertigo - June 22, 2005 06:46 PM (GMT)
I'm thinking of buying one of those processors. The gnx3 costs 300 us dollars and the gnx 4 costs 500 us dollars.I haven't noticed a lot of difference between those two processors but a friend told me to get gnx4.Would the gnx4 be worth the 200 dollar price difference? And would I need the 128mb smart media card when I buy one of those? Please help me decide.

I'm a proud owner of a GNX3....and I've had the opportunity to experiment with the GNX4. I love my 3, I can record....edit....model and do a multitude of things most other processors dont offer. The only beef I have with the GNX3 is the built in drum machine. It lacks a depth of different flavors.

The GNX4 has more drums....the MP3 compadibilty, and a new button design, but other than that, I found them to be the same. Both units use memory cards, and the GNX4 cards are a tad bit more spendy. You dont neccessarily need to by 128MB cards, but smaller cards will cut back on your track time.

If you have the extra cash...go for it!...but the GNX3 is way cool in my book.

I'd go for a Boss GT8 or a Line6 Pod XT (don't know what the name of their floor effects processor is), those two are just the big bosses of effect land!

i have a gnx1 and sware by it...quality fx and amps but also the whammy pedal features and amp warping round this out to be the best pedal system out there for the money.....but all the bigger ones really have alot of features that most likely you wont use but a nice intro to recording and programming

i have a gnx1 for sale $150...works perfect(satch and halen presets loaded)...im only selling because i now have all the pedals and fx seperate...it looks cooler...lol...like you know who

Thanks for the help.I think I'll go with the gnx3 then.I looked at boss products(me50,gt6-8) too but they are more expensive and they don't have built in recorders.Maybe I'll buy new pickups with the money I save.

thats great.....but watch those salesmen ...they really push the 3 and 4 but you can get the 1 and 2 and an amazing price and you can get recording software and a great microphone with the money you save......the gnx3 and 4 prices will drastically lower next year....the technology is starting to age.....but bargain with the salesman and use what ive told you above and you should get a great deal..good luck

ok, good luck :)
You should check some internet stores when I've decided which one it's gonna be, in Germany for example. I bet that they're much cheaper that the stores in Turkye!

mr.vertigo - June 23, 2005 08:38 PM (GMT)
Actually music equipment is quite expensive here in Turkey,as music equipment is usually imported from Germany. If I was going to buy a gnx3 here I'd have to pay a lot more than 300 usd.A friend of my father who lives in USA will buy it and bring it here to me.He visits Turkey every 2 or 3 months so I can get music equipment cheaper than most of the people here in Turkey.By the way is Music123 a good place to buy stuff?

Axeshredder - June 23, 2005 09:34 PM (GMT)
you dont have ebay over there? Music123 is ok.....but you can do better when you go to a store or ebay...thats where i got my gnx1...good luck

go here for cool patches for Joe and many others

I have a GNX2 and when I play through the "Rectifier" patch, it sounds sooo close to Satch's sound.

It's also a great bit of kit for the price. I have a Peavey XXX and a Randall Cyclone and I can't get the same level of distortion from both amps as I do GNX2. I use that to get my Dimebag sound. I just need a 2x15 cab to accompany my 4x12 to handle the bass.

I own a gnx3 too and I think its great, although the drums really lack, but thats what drum machines are for right? I still haven't gotten a joe satch tone but I'm really impatient. I just suggest taking the time to adjust every control and pick up some presets at digitech.com

PODXT is good, especially control it through a computer

I use GNX4

I just got the GNX1 from EBAY for $100 shipped. I really prefer the feel of the older digitech pedals (RP12, RP20, etc...) but you can really do a lot with the GNX1. The pre-sets are marginal... but if you experiment (or use other people's patches) you will get some amazing sounds.

I have a GNX3 and it's pretty cool but the drum sounds are pretty cheesey but they are still useable for just playing around. I think one of the big benefits of the GNX4 besides the better drums is the USB connection. I'm not sure what all of it's capabilities are but I'm guessing that it can be used for digital out recording in addition to being used to edit and load sound patches. I know that the GNX3 has a MIDI connection that can be used for some of the same things but the USB port makes things so much easier.

I could see the USB connection on the GNX4 being really usefull... especialy since I just paid $40 for a USB to MIDI patch cable for my GNX1

I would just skip the all in one stuff and do what axe is done. I have a similar set up but taking it a step further with some rack stuff. But my basic bedroom set up is floor pedals and JSX head. For recoring I should be getting the MBOX 2!
