SirChick - November 5, 2006 10:55 PM (GMT)
Hey guys,
Can some one suggest me some good songs to learn rythem, i like the rythem to be complex and a bit diffrent to normal rythems, with hopefully some scratches in like "Just Like Lightnin" but i learnt that n need sumin a bit harder...

Maybe try the rhythm part of the "verse" sections of MPHGT (not the harmonics, the power chords / diads).
It's easy to play, for sure, but to get it to sound right takes some effort, IMHO.

Wait which part you referring to now... ?

Thats a live version aint it.... sounds like it to me from the acoustics of it.
Bit like the G3 one... ?
PhryDom - November 5, 2006 11:33 PM (GMT)
It's from some G3 or other. I don't currently have FIABD, and I miss it like mad! Used to have it on vinyl and CD before I left England!

Argh so you were once in England, i thought so!!

Hey Sir Chick check out Joe's lesson on satch boogie on youtube. He doesn't teach the solo instead the rhthym parts which will give you n insight like mystical potato how joe thinks.

PhryDom - November 6, 2006 12:56 AM (GMT)
I think it's linked in the boots section, or maybe the All About Joe section.

I love the One Big Rush rhythm...especially for the LISF version (with the lead interspersed)...

You know, there's more musicians than Satch and Vai, guys... ;)
Depends what you're looking to learn. For metal rhythm, for the contemporary stuff Lamb of God is generally held to be pretty top-notch by my friends who are more into this stuff than I, and I SERIOUSLY dig Opeth - check out "Blackwater Park" for some awesome metal riffing. For more mainstream stuff, he got a bad rap in Creed but Mark Tremonti's work has always been itneresting (the song itself blows, but his riffing in "Higher" is excellent), and in particular the Alter Bridge album is seriously good - I just rediscovered it.
For less metal-y stuff, check out Jimi's clean stuff - "Little Wing," "Castles Made of Sand," and "Wait Until Tomorrow" are all awesome tutorials on how to suggest chords with double stops and fills. Ditto for guys sharing the same influences and expanding on the tradition - SRV comes to mind.
Also Keith Richards rules - his hit-on stuff in and out of chords is a LOT of fun, and is something you can totally hear Satch playing off. Try "Gimme Shelter."
And, when in doubt, if you can't play Tool's AEnima all the way through, you probably should learn it.

Well heavy metal aint my cup of tea but Im up for trying it. And basically any song that will help me get off on the right foot with rythem, just like lightnin was a unique practising thing i felt it taught me palm muting which is fun. I tried sum black sabbath like paranoid but i got bored of it :(
Ill give it a try though. Thanks! :D
