motorcycle_driver - December 1, 2006 05:29 PM (GMT)
ok, so i went to the music store a few days ago and see this nice lookin pedal. the owner, being a good friend(since i bought almost everythin related to guitar from that shop) let me try it out. i plugged it in, and it sounded pretty good. best part was that there was a POG patch too! it had a decent look, USB interface, Cubase LE software came free with it...and all that for $155.
so being pretty pleased with it, ill try it out again after me exams and if im fully satisfied....ill prolly buy it.
anyone here tried it?

I have not tried one yet, but the Zoom product that has me thinking is the pedal BD that has the expression pedal that rotates sideways as well as depresses. That just seems like a brilliant idea.

i read some of the reviews...they say that when they start the drum machine, the reverb automatically turns off. bigger display would've been nice. once patched are tweaked, they sound great!

I used to use Zoom pedals at school. I had the 2020 and then later got the 4040. I cant say anything bad about them. For the money they cost you get a hell of a lot to play
motorcycle_driver - December 3, 2006 11:06 AM (GMT)
yeah, but even with that lot u get, the quality wasnt very good....patches were fuzzy...not really good when it came to effects inbetween purely clean and purely distorted....hope u know what i mean....apparently...the new Zoom products are a HUGE step from that...
john aiton - December 13, 2006 03:38 PM (GMT)
hell yeah :D
the zoom g7 and g9 pedals really nail the high gain tube tone,
the mesa triaxis preamp patch sounds like the real thing and gives you a great satch sound with the gain set lower

i used to own a g2.1u once.. but i sold it after 3 days i get it... maybe i am more to single stompboxes... i feel that the zoom g2.1u too digitally feel for me... maybe u should try out in the nearest dealer before u get it ...so that u wont regret after buying it.... just my 2 cents... :)
motorcycle_driver - December 17, 2006 12:10 PM (GMT)
i did try it the first time i saw it....i did like it...but i never really could pay more attention to it...what's the use....i cant buy it RIGHT now....mom said NO...... :( maybe after a few more months...
satriani guy - December 17, 2006 08:02 PM (GMT)
My friend got it and wqas really disapointed,, not much to choose from,, the gain sounds arent AWFULL but could be one HELL of alot better,, nearly EVERY patch is distortion and some patches are just HORRID
i think you can get better for your money dude
Im not sayin its bad but its nowhere near as good for your money as some other Multi FX
I think that Zoom Hit the needle on the head when they released the 505ii,, that was exactly what was needed at the time,, a medium quality cheap multi FX,, IMO they havent got it right this time
Mind you thins is all In My Opinion
How much are you willing to pay?
And yeah the pedal that moves lateral too is awsome!
great idea

I've got the same thing without the expression pedal -G2 one. Its actually quite good. The distortion will dissappoint you if you're looking for a great articulated distortion but here's what you can expect from it - great clean, awesome effects especially the chorus and new harmonizer, great mushy distortion (kinda like an early EVH), decent drum machine, nice crunch tones (bluesy)...thats all i guess. I use it just for effects actually but i still like the tone it gives....way better than any other digital pedal in this range.

mmm...ok...i guess i will buy it...sooner or later. thanx Sridhar

Hello everybody,
I just discovered the site coz I'm so fed up with my Zoom G2.
Too bad I didn't try it out thoroughly at the store.
Anyway I could never get a good tone close to Satch on this.
Well maybe for AWMAWY I got close somewhat, but I want so bad to play Cryin' and nothing I do is close.I have to run through my speakers the modeller coz I do not own an amp.
Are there maybe in these forums people that own a G2 (at least in their chain) and got good Satriani tones ?
I am using Epiphone LP.Thanks in advance.

I tested it once in a guitar store and I found it to be useless. It sounded sharp, dead and the distortion was terrible.
I would recommend the Behringer Vamp2/Pro or the PODXT. With those two you can dial in an almost perfect Vai/Satch tone and for the price you can't beat it, even some expensive tube amps doesn't sound better.
Actually, a real JSX could sound worse than those 2, if you don't have the right equipment or the knowledge to record from such an amp.

Thanks man.I would like to buy a PODXT but it is way too expensive, and it's only usable with a PC.Since I do not own an amp an occasionaly play thru my Hi-Fi it would create some problems. What I do like about it is the online archive that makes it easy to dial in great tones.I just have a question : does it also act like a sound card substituting my current setup ? I have a SB Live ! and I am not so happy with it also...so that would be a plus.
AND...all those great tones are available without an amp ? :o

You don't need a PC to use the PODXT; it is standalone, just plug in the guitar and connect some headphones.
Not sure what you mean but you can't use it as a soundcard in a computer.
Don't worry, Sb! Live would be sufficient for recording I think.
And yes all those great tones in a tiny box.
Also if you think the PODXT is expensive you could go for the cheaper Vamp2.
Danezzu - March 2, 2007 11:47 AM (GMT)
Thanks again. So nice to hear it is standalone.Thing is...now I am considering buying it 2nd hand...looking for some good offers.
After being totally let down by the zoom I am a bit worried about the tones I will get through my computer.I really don't have the budget for buying an amp as well.Based on your experience, does it have great tones straight out of the box...for direct recording/no amp ? The online library comprised.
I would go for the V-amp but my time is limited so I appreciate an online archive where I can waste little time in dialing in nice tones.
Not sure if Behr.has one.The Line6 online support and communities seem superb.

POD xt live can be used as standalone and can be used INTO your SB live via the line in. I use 2 mono jack outputs from the POD into and planetwaves quality adapter that gives you a 1/8th inch stereo male connector for the line in. There are then many "free" softwares available on the net for recording purposes.
Yes you can download from the line6 website which makes life easier but that does not stop you dialing in your own patches which makes sense because the person that uploads a patch to the line6 site won't have the exact same gear as you.
Good luck in your search and fire away questions if you buy one and need any help!!

Yes,unfortunately I am stuck with the Zoom for now,and since this still IS the Zoom topic...I highly...umm,not recommend the unit to anyone.
I hear people say that after endless tweaking they got some good patches, but really,I can't get any. They just lack expression totally.Dull, this is the word.
I was wondering if going thru an amp I'd get better tones,or if I should sell the Zoom (which actually nobody wants to buy unless I drop the price by half and I just bought it :(( ) and get a more expensive proc.and ditch the amp for now.I've got the money,I just don't have enough time with work and everything.
Keep in touch guys, and thanxs so much.I am constantly coming back to the forums and appreciate all your suggestions.

what about the newer Zoom pedal that has a tube?
sounds to me the zoom that you have is not very user friendly?

Hey i've got the G2 too. Its not tottaly hopeless let me tell you....alone it wont be good for much but with other pedals its pretty awesome. The effects alone are worth it man. I suggest you keep it and look for another analog distortion pedal to give you the drive. The zoom is not gonna give you stellar sounds cause it was made as an entry level pedal for starters i think. For practicing its great. The drum machine is not bad too.
I think its a bit much to expect satriani tones from a pedal like that. The cleans on the pedal is great too. If you can spend...get a really good distortion pedal to go along with it.
