Finally G3 came to Australia and we were fortunate enough to have John Petrucci in the line up.

We all filed into Melbourne's regal Regent Theatre around 7pm and waited to be seated. The venue was fully staffed with a bar and very comfortable seating ^_^ We were sitting about 8 rows back from stage.

Being seated was unusual, everyone was just sitting back and appreciating the show. There was some subdued head nodding (me and about 4 other people in front of me) but otherwise everyone was sitting dead still :huh: After each set, everyone would jump up for a standing ovation and welcome the next G with plenty of noise. The whole show went for 4 hours.

The initial mix for John was muddy but they had it cleared up by the second song. He finished with Damage Control - the tone was magnificent, and at an ear ripping volume, it was a great experience to see him live!

Next Steve came out... he started with Tender Surrender, which was brilliant, followed by 3 songs I didn't really enjoy (sorry Steve fans). I was really looking forward to seeing Steve but was a little disappointed with his set... Thankfully he ended with FTLOG!

Next your favourite and mine, Joe! He played a fantastic set including Satch Boogie which is always a treat. Mid way through Joe's set some freak ran up to the stage, JUMPED ON and started "we're not worthy-ing" Joe. Joe didn't miss a beat, he walked over the to guy and was playing to him ... what a pro :) ... after about 15 seconds Michael Manning came racing out and muscled him off the stage :ph43r: Venue staff then assisted the frootloop to the exit.

Joe ended his awesome set with AWMAWY and before it ended he was joined by Steve and John for some Hendrix, and the pinnacle of the show - the guitar dueling (well, it's too passive to be a duel but you know the bit I mean!). John threw some arpeggios into his pieces and was wicked to watch!

The show finished with the classic Neil Young number and the G's exited stage with more standing and cheering.

Nice review - I flew over for the show from NZ, and had an absolute blast. First time I'd seen any of the guys live after being a fan since the late 80s.

I'd have to give Mr Vai bigger props though, I thought his set was the best of all for virtuosity and clarity... but thankfully we al have different tastes which were well accommodated on the night. :)

Hey Clarky welcome to the forum :) Cool pics. That would have been an expensive night for you, but definitely worth it!
