Title: How Long To You Think Joe Will Keep Recording?
bjorkfinity - December 3, 2006 08:40 AM (GMT)
I don't know - he's like 46 now? He's in great shape physically and mentally from what I can tell. But how long can a guitarist record good albums? And I know that guitarists and a lot of musicians NEVER quit what they're doing. I've never seen a guitarist put down his guitar and go into another area of music (Managing, Producing, etc.) because of his age. Page never did it although he should have (I saw him twice in '88 and I stand behind what I just said). Clapton hasn't, Billy Gibbons hasn't. I guess some bands just fade away like the Doobie Bros. and Steely Dan. Aerosmith sure hasn't. I have no idea what Satch be putting out when he's 55 but I can't imagine him putting out something like Love in Space or The Extremist.

uh...he's 50 now...and the stuff he's released in the 2000's has surprised me...that he CAN play some really good guitar and come up with good songs....so he'll go on for a long time!

Yes, I thought on Super Colossal, he would probably be really bad, but he wasnt as bad.

I think he will continue to record into his 70s, or as long as he can still play. As he gets older he will probable slow down and not work as much though. His music will also continue to evolve and change, which will of course piss people off (as it already has). So along the way he may loose some fans, but he will always pick up new ones.

he may finally record some jazz tracks that he's always been wanting to do...

BBKing is 80 this year... so Satch EASILY can go for 20 more years or more

Yeah, but BB King doesn't play chords - they take a lot out of you :)
I think Satch will play as long as he possibly can. At some point, I think he'll get bored with his current style/s, and do some really experimental or jazzy stuff. And I bet even if he can't play anymore for some reason, he'll still write music.

Oh yes satriani does thousands of chords i forgot about that......? What are you on about it takes alot out of you...:P Its only hands... hell be less active on stage maybe end up in a seat when he plays but still his playing will get better unless he gets arthritus or sumin unlucky.

Just kidding about the chords. Oh man - arthritis would seriously suck for any guitarist. Joe's already beaten tendinitis, though...

al_peggio - December 5, 2006 12:59 PM (GMT)
As he get older maybe he will play more calmer songs. Personally I wouldn't mind at all because he knows how to write great mellow tunes.
SirChick - December 5, 2006 02:13 PM (GMT)
How do you beat tendonitis... i got it now!! I MUST beat it.... is it sugery that fixes it ?

No, your fingers need to relax for a while and I think it will go away eventually.

I think that's probably what he did. I think he explained it in the article, but I can't find it now for the life of me.
Here's a link for a potential tendinitis fix:
