Title: Touching Up A Chromeboy
guitardave - January 8, 2007 07:22 PM (GMT)
Hi, this is my first post here so go easy on me!
I've been checking out various chromeboys on ebay because I'm thinking of getting one, but I'm concerned about their reputation for being a bit "flaky". Is there any way to touch up minor chips in them, or is it really a job for a professional?
Thanks for any help,
Dave

With something thats worth as much as a chromeboy its defonatly better to get it done profesionally,, (Thats if you can find someone who would be wiling to do it  )

Yeah, I thought as much...
I'm leaning towards getting a JS1000 instead to be honest. Much as I would love a chromeboy, I think I would be so scared of damaging it, that it wouldn't get played, and that would just be a waste.
Do Ibanez make white JS's anymore? I saw Joe using it on the latest live dvd, and prefer that colour. Also, has he ever used that btb one? He uses a few on the new dvd, but not that one.
Thanks,
Dave

Speaking of the chromeboy, I too am thinking about getting one. I didn't see any on Musician's Friend. Does anybody know if they're still being made?

Ibanez does not currently manufacture white JS1000s or Chromeboys.

you can find both on ebay.
one alternative is that you buy a JS100/1000 [your call] and then take it to a bike shop and they can chrome the guitar for you.
I remember somebody on this forum mentioning that they also do it. The difference [as I understand it] is that ibanez does not put a clear coat over it, while a bike shop can do that for you. if you don't have a clear coat, it shines more, however it chips more.
if I am mistaken, please inform me guys.
IMHO, I would go with a JS 1000 and send it to pamelina or somebody to add whatever color or graphics you want
i would start looking here though
http://www.ibanezrules.com/used.htm#JStalk to the owner, call him after looking up the site, and mention my name so i can get a discount in the future :) just kidding

Right, like Rich would ever give you, or anybody else for that matter, a discount.....
You really don't want to have anyone touch up anything on a chromeboy. If the guitar flakes or gets scratched it won't look the same. The guitars (both the 10th and the PRM) were made with a thin layer of metal (real chrome on the 10th and aluminum on the PRM).
Just thought you'd like to know.
