i havent used power tab, but have been using guitar preo for quite some time now...it's a great software...not too much space consuming...u can get it for a 30 day trial period, and even use it after the trial period is over...

I have been using both for quite some time now. If you start with one of them however, you usually dislike the other, because it is different in the way of use, so it is irritating.

I am a Power Tab fan. Btw, power tab is free, use google to find the page. It is something like 1,7MB or more.

Guitar pro 5 is something different and new. It has 'realistic sound engine' which sounds awesome on some tunes and awfull on others. It is BIG. Something like 300 MB... 360 to be exact. GP5 is something much more than PT... I am waiting for PT2 to get out now. Btw, I do not use the realistic sound engine, so it is the same as older GPs. The thing that irritates me most about GP is compatability. If you have an erlier version of GP like 3 or 4, you cannnot play most of the files, even some for GP4 on GP4...

They are both easy to use btw, and helpful to get an idea whether the tabs are correct and how they sound...

Hey Southpaw Satch,

I use Powertab because it's free and easy to use, I think you can download it at www.powertabs.net

I haven't tried Guitar Pro for reasons mentioned eariler, theres only a 30day trial.

Of course you can use GP tabs from 1234 on the latest 5 .. .same pattern applies to all of guitar pro programs.. but 5 cant be played on 4 etc cos its too recent you catch my drift :)

I prefer PowerTab, mainly due to the fact that you can see multiple guitar parts on-screen simultaneously whereas GP only shows one at a time. You'll find countless thousands of Powertabs at www.ultimate-guitar.com

SirChick, I did not write that you cannot play gp3 files on GP 5.

I had for a looong time Guitar Pro 4, and I had tons of files that I could not play on gp4, although they were supposed to be gp4. And I personally dislike programs that are completely different in just two builds, e.g. a version of GP4 and another build on GP4 ;) Besides, nothing that big happened between gp3 and 4...
With GP5 I do not have any problems of such kind.

Awakened Sleeper, you can have multiple tracks together. It is an option in 'View' and it is called 'Multitrack View' ^_^

Thanks Guys !!! I think i'll try Power Tab. ^_^

The only other thing is would you recommend downloading the other programs like the "Power Tab Librarian v1.0.0.175" or the "Power Tab .98 to 1.0 Convertor (.pot to .ptb convertor)" ??

i always have used guitar pro, but cause it is the most pop and universal...if you use one not so popular..you get out of the actuallity..is like not to actuallize your programs...
but the truth is...
i hate gpro...
i hate when i open a tab and reallize thas a new version of gpro is in the marker..
i hate when it get stuck
i will use power tabs from now on

i can disable everything...all teh notifications...i feel GP5 is pretty stable, unless i play a HUGE tab, or if i play Dream Theater's In The Name Of God's keytar solo...

other than that, it's perfectly fine(i just use the cracked version...cant afford to buy it)!!!
