indeed it is pentatonic, as far as i can hear and see it sound like a classic Blues lick that joe very often uses but this time REALLY fast!!!

I would tab it out but i cant/dont know how to do it here :$ :$

i am soo tempted to actually shave the neck of my telecaster..to make it slightly slimmer..the stupid neck hinders my speed and soloing technique!

so what affects the speed in the context of necks.

1)Slimmer neck

2)Wider neck or small neck?

Future- Yes a slimmer neck, for many people does help, but take a look at Joes JS necks, theres are Fatter that the Wizard(RG) and are more strat like, he still manages to do it,,,

How you hold the neck makes more of a differnace than any other things (IMO) I cant play very well when i use the space between my index finger and my thumb to cup the nech, (Joe says that this method is proper) i play with my thumb ALWAYS on the neck,, as this is the way i have been taught (Legato style)

(Anyone know what is the proper way?)

Just watch people like Joe Pass and youll realise its one hell of alot more your fingers than your neck ;) ;) ;)

If im not mistaken.. i believe it has the same neck as a fender stratocaster almost,. which is a big ass neck...

and yet malmsteen fly's over it. Its nothing to do with the neck. your hands will adapt to it.... just like anything else.

It helps yes, but playing a bigger neck is better... youll find the smaller necks easy and then you will be able to play the same playing on all guitars cos your used to the hardest one .... though i can never play well on BC Rich guitars i hate the shape of them...

Hmm...

i think Roy Buchanans neck was really chunky and had a V curve..but i am from singapore.small body , small fingers.

Anyway , if someone could tab it out. i would be great!

There's a really good tab for Just Like Lightnin' here:

Darn...whenever I play blues licks, up my thumb goes...yet legato it's perfectly behind the neck. So switching it is a bit of a ***** >_>

satriani guy - February 7, 2007 07:20 PM (GMT)
yeah its strange, i can play Some stuff with my thumb over the nack buti find it SO uncomfortable

I think it depends what parts you are playing. If the lead part is more pentatonic based i tend to use thumb slightly over but if 3note per scale stuff then strictly thumb on back of neck.
