Title: Jsx 212 Combo - Ohms Setting
Fredsin - March 19, 2007 12:13 AM (GMT)
Just got myself a JSX 212 - woohooo....
Just a quick question and I feel rather dumb asking it. The impedence switch on the back was set to 16 ohms. There are two 8 ohms speakers, should the setting be set to 4 ohms? (8/2 = 4)
thanx in advance

I hate to follow up on my own question. After reading a few threads, I understand two 8 ohms in series would have impedance set to 16ohm...however two 8 ohm speakers in parallel should be set to 4 ohm
Okay so my revised question is "are the speakers in the jsx212 set in parallel or serial?"

I might try asking over at the Peavey forums, you might even get an answer from an actual Peavey amp tech.

And the answer is....
16ohm
The speakers are running in series...
Thanx for the peavey forum tip....I hope to have something recorded real soon with this amp

I understood it the same way as you did, that it should be 4, rather than 16, I tried to find the topic that you mentioned on the peavey forum. can you post it here,
and why will different settings do to your sound if you know?

Actually wasn't on a peavey forum thread. Tech support emailed directly and let me know that the speakers were in series. 8+8 = 16.
I hope that helps.

Try something interesting and turn the effect loop knobs at full blast. You get a boost.

I don't think you can use different settings, as far as I know running an amp at the wrong ohm setting can cause severe damage to the amp.
