Inzane - April 5, 2007 03:38 PM (GMT)
Just curious if Flying in a Blue Dream (the album) has been re-released yet in a remixed/remastered form?

Thanks.

tbh the quality of the flying in a blue dream is good i dont know why it needs remastering... note of this earth does though cos its so quiet!!

I think the only Joe CD that was ever re-mastered was the Surfing with the Alien Gold Ultradisk.

agree...NOTE requires remastering!

Some of the guitar tracks on Flying sound dreadful, with ultra-harsh digital distortion sounds - for example the Mystical Potato Head rhythms. Not nice on the ears.

remasters arent as good as analog.were those albums digital? i know foreigner recorded in analog.the old cassettes have a better soundprint than cd's....dont like zeppelin digital , like they play on the radio. like the way it sounded on the radio before cd's were forced on the market.my 2and one half cents...

Try doing that mystical potatoe head groove thing hand trick that he does at the same quality of sound as he does on the album version, and you will understand why it sounds like that ! Even live he doesnt sound 100% clean like on the album, you can tell he brushed it up a bit on the album version....

either that or you just blasting it too loud :P

well the Joe Satriani album in 1995 was done on tape... as shown in the REEL documentary so i assume the albums before that did.

I disagree, the sound quality that you hear over the radio is worst than a bad MP3. There are pluses and minuses to both analog and digital. Analog will sound a bit warmer and more natural, but digital is soooo convenient, and quiet - no tape hiss, clicks or pops. As for Zeppelin, I love the new re-masters, especially LZ III, I think it sounds much better than the original. It was a great help that Jimmy Page actually did the re-matering himself.

This is because radio's compress music beyond hell on earth to make it small enough to stream to your radio. If its not to stream it to you then i not sure why else they would do it. Maybe to keep the songs all the same level also cos we know diffrent songs are mastered diffrent meaning they all have diffrent volumes, so im sure radio's adjust that.

You wouldnt want to listen to radio nice n quietly then suddenly a loud song comes on and wakes everyone up hehe that be funny!

FIABD has been remastered....Epic did a remastered reissue in 1997...catalog number EK68024. The jewel case has a round red and white sticker that reads "Digitally Remastered!" with Joe's signature below.

Maybe it's out of print? Granted, the remastering was done 10 years ago but to me it sounds a lot better than the original 1989 Relativity release.

I know what you mean, the main lick does require plenty of gain - but I was referring to the rhythm guitars, such as the first riff of the song.

But yeah, I'm probably blasting far it too loud as well

In this case compression and compression are actually homonyms.

I just bought a copy at Best Buy. They had two of them. I've been looking on and off for this for quite a while. It definitely seems to have more punch to it, but I'll need to compare it to my regular FIABD CD on my good stereo to really tell.

They also had The Extremist Remastered and a 2006 remastered version of SWTA (never saw that before...).

In any case, like I said, there were two of them, so if anybody wants me to pick up the other one for them, I'll be happy to do so. Just cover my costs ($12.83 total cost of the CD + media mail price (a few bucks, I think)).
