Id be dissapointed if that was why he chose 9 ! I like hearing some unusual story to how he got the name. i was dissapointed with how he got mystical potatoe head grove thing.. how normal was that (over a telephone call whilst being bored talking to his brother) ive never got over that... why cldnt he have made up a more interesting reason :P

tschommer - April 22, 2007 07:43 PM (GMT)
Ice #9 is a term from the book Cat's Cradle, by Kurt Vonnegut.

Cool #9 might've just been the ninth rendition of that song idea he was working with and couldn't think of a better name then "Cool"?

PhryDom - April 23, 2007 01:30 AM (GMT)
Yep, just like Satch Boogie's real name is (something like) Satch Boogie #47

Rawal - April 23, 2007 03:08 PM (GMT)
LOL, the funniest stuff..but I think he names quite a bit of his stuff from weird sci fi comics, no?

SirChick - April 23, 2007 06:55 PM (GMT)

Yes, Shalla bal was the Silver Surfers (Norrin Radd) wife or girlfriend

Not always comics, but I think these are all SciFi Themes though.

Borg Sex
Is there Love in Space (could just be a philosophical question though)
Redshift Riders
One Robots Dream
Not of this Earth
The Traveler (A Star Trek TNG reference?)
Time Machine
Theme for a Strange World

SirChick - April 24, 2007 12:31 AM (GMT)
One Robots Dream - He said it came to him in a dream... as he says on stage thinking about a robot becoming the same as a human

The Traveler (A Star Trek TNG reference?) - No, quite literrally about a traveler. Crowd chant was the song that was going to have some form of star trek stuff involved but they changed it last minute, because star trek took too long to reply to him with all the copyright reasons, and the deadline to release Super Collossal had to be released.

Still, a dreaming robot is certainly a SciFi theme, no matter where it came from, even if it's not a specific reference.

Oh yeh most deffo i thought when you said Scifi theme i thought you ment from some form of film/comic etc

Satch9 - April 24, 2007 06:22 PM (GMT)

Theme For A Strange World isn't really sci-fi in any way, it's just the feeling you get when you wake up one day and you feel like everything's radically and oddly changed from the day before. And yeah, Is There Love In Space? was a philosophical question he asked himself after he saw a picture ZZ drew, but yeah it's still sci-fi-ey.

Obviously the Power Cosmic's (Silver Surfer reference),...and I guess something like With Jupiter in Mind

Well Crystal Planet came from when Joe was reading a book about Crystals and how everything is made up of crystals and this really fasinated him, so thats where he got the name Crystal Planet from.
