Title: Talk2joe Cd3 Submissions Are Open!

PhryDom - April 23, 2007 02:39 AM (GMT)
  • you may submit only one track
  • you may submit an original track (not previously available anywhere)
  • you may submit a cover of a joe track (see below for more on this)
  • tracks may be no longer than 5 minutes in total duration
  • tracks should be submitted with your real name & your screen name in mp3 format to talk2joesubmissions@gmail.com
  • mp3s should be no larger than 9MB
  • if chosen you will need to submit the fee of $25USD to cover hosting and domain name fees. mark & dave have personally paid this since the beginning of the project out of personal funds. your submissions will keep the site (and hence the project) alive.
  • if chosen you will need to send a physical audio cd of your track to an address as yet TBA
  • covers must NOT sound like the original! be creative! change the key, the vibe, the instrumentation, the tempo! imagine an acapella version of summer song! or a bluegrass rendition of i am become death! or a death metal grind version of awmawy!
  • if chosen you will not allow your track to be heard anywhere else for a minimum of six months (this includes mp3 downloads, CDs, myspace, streams, etc)
  • if chosen and you submitted a cover you are NOT to make it available anywhere else EVER! it is so great of joe to PERSONALLY authorise us to use his music we don't want to have legal problems for YOU further down the line, not to mention us losing this selfless gift for future releases
  • only registered and active members of satriani.com and / or satrianiforum.com are entitled to enter
  • mark and dave are in a very UNenviable position as judges. please do not make our lives a misery if you don't get chosen. we have a very tough job to do. no favouritism is used.
  • ALL submissions that aren't chosen for the CDs will be available on talk2joe.com so you can see for yourself the hard job it is!
  • no sooner than six months after the CD release date (TBA) physical CDs will still be available and (paid) mp3 downloads will be made available on talk2joe.com
  • the closing date for submissions is JULY 31 2007. no later! [LIST]
we look forward to hearing your creations!

Don't let that stop ya from writing a great tune or doing a ridculous cover.

we (I) look forward to all the tunes submitted.

PhryDom - April 24, 2007 01:45 AM (GMT)
Yes indeed. Remember all tracks will be on the site, whether they're on the CD or not.

And $25 is only like 12 quid to you! That's not even the price of a CD these days ;)

SirChick - April 24, 2007 01:01 PM (GMT)
True how can i pay.. what methods do u accept ? paypal etc?

PhryDom - April 24, 2007 02:10 PM (GMT)
There will be a PayPal account and if you can send a Traveller's Cheque in USD that's fine too.

SirChick - April 27, 2007 07:10 PM (GMT)
can u give paypal details.. ? id rather pay with paypal it be easier

PhryDom - April 28, 2007 12:18 AM (GMT)
There is no need at this time. We are currently only accepting submissions. You only pay if you are chosen for the CD package.

SirChick - April 29, 2007 07:15 PM (GMT)
Oh ok, does quality of recording become an important issue with choosing the songs ?

PhryDom - April 30, 2007 12:03 AM (GMT)
Not at all.

cube - June 3, 2007 06:17 PM (GMT)
keep the submissions coming..
we have gotten some great stuff so far!

Drew - June 15, 2007 06:58 PM (GMT)
Goddamn, I just noticed this. The next month is going to be busy as hell for me, but I'll try to get something together. :)

PhryDom - June 16, 2007 01:56 AM (GMT)
Glad to hear it! :)

Awesome requirement, btw. I always wanted to do AWMAWY on the sax, as "cool jazz" sax players were a big part of Joe's inspiration for that song. But I guess I'd have to learn how to play the sax first...

Unfortunately, I won't be able to put anything together by that deadline (all my recording stuff is currently in storage...), but if you're making another CD after that, I'll try to get something together for that one.

what is that big secret thing u never mentioned it in the end

I have to say that this killed it for me and put me off sending in a track.I have a few tracks that I think wouldīve been cool to get on the CD.

Sorry to hear that, but look at it from the point of view of making money for the Red Cross - if all the tracks were available online as downloads then nobody would buy the CDs. We need to keep it exclusive at least for a little while otherwise the project would become kinda pointless.

Yeah when you put it that way I would agree but that would mean that I wouldnīt be able to release my album for 6 months as the song I wouldīve sent in wouldīve ended up on that and I didnīt have long enough to write, record, mix and master another one.Shame really.

cube - June 24, 2007 09:49 PM (GMT)
you could release your cd..just not offer that song as a stream or free download. you can still sell it on your cd

hope to see your track. :)

Oh yeah.I thought that the track wasnīt allowed to be put on the CD.I need clarification on this.

Also isnīt it too late to submit a track.

cube - June 26, 2007 01:39 AM (GMT)
i think if its on your cd for sale thats ok..but the covers we need them to not be available on any sort of media.
i think there is still a few days left to submit a tune.....

cube - August 21, 2007 03:40 PM (GMT)
we actually have a bit of space .. for a few extra tunes, covers and originals.
so if ya got some send em on in..

Axeshredder - August 22, 2007 01:51 AM (GMT)
tell me, is this open to people you dont like? Many have asked me if im on it and i say no because i get some cold vibes from you guys...maybe its in my head but if you need a track, i surely have a few and would probably do a new one if you guys show any interest and wash away and cold vibe i get...but either way im cool with it....no response will be an answer i can understand. Thanks

cube - August 22, 2007 01:04 PM (GMT)
well , if you send in a track you get a better chance,
please do send in a track.

Axeshredder - August 23, 2007 02:03 AM (GMT)
whats the deadline? originals or covers? do you want one of each? thanks

PhryDom - August 23, 2007 08:36 AM (GMT)
look at the first post in this thread. we're welcoming both covers and originals, but covers need to be different from the originals.

cold vibes often happen on the internet - facial expressions, body language, sense of humour, etc are often lost / misconstrued when you're only armed with a few smiley faces. it's hot enough down here in atlanta to send some warm vibes up to NY :)

the deadline has been extended because we need some more tracks. it hasn't been extended to a new "date", it's been extended to "when we have enough tracks" if you see what i mean ;)

Axeshredder - August 23, 2007 11:17 PM (GMT)
actually i think i was hesitant after reading those rules the first time..though i can kinda understand the dictator like instructions...to put it mildly...but unless you make strict rules it ends up being quite a mess to manage and the success of previous surely earn the respect to follow them... but since i cant use an original ive already done ...it may be difficult for me as i dont make backers myself and kinda limit me on the loop samples...i"ll try to have something in a week or less and if not i wish you alot of luck and thank you all for the opportunity :beer3:

PhryDom - August 24, 2007 12:36 PM (GMT)
I wouldn't say dictator-like, but I think I know what you mean. It looks pretty scary, pretty limiting, but this is sadly what we've had to do based on a lot of not-very-nice-stuff that happened behind the scenes on both of the other two CDs. I'm not going to give examples, but believe me - this is the best format we could come up with to try to save any more of that not-nice-stuff happening again.

Sure you can use one of your originals, we just ask that you take it down from any websites that it's on right now. If it's on a CD, though, that's probably not a possibility.

The reason for this (I might have explained this in this thread already) is that for the first CD a lot of the contributors were so pleased to be on the CD that they had their tracks on their MySpaces and whatnot so their friends could hear their track. This was both before and after the CD was released. This meant that over half the CD could be downloaded for free and thus the Red Cross were not getting the money because people weren't buying the CD.

We reckon keeping your track exclusive for the T2J CD (at least for a little while, we're not like holding it forever!) will help increase CD sales, which is a very important part of the project.

Hope this help you out brother, and everyone - feel free to ask away your questions!

SirChick - August 25, 2007 12:21 AM (GMT)
woah moderator galore in here lol. I found the rules not bad....but ive done this for other CDs for charity so im kinda used to it. Plus i like the challenge of a deadline and length restriction... real artists get pressure on them like that from their labels lol

cube - November 8, 2007 02:50 AM (GMT)
well i am back now..

if anybody has any questions let us know

SirChick - November 9, 2007 03:35 PM (GMT)
yeah what on earth is going on its been ages since anything happened

PhryDom - November 11, 2007 04:23 PM (GMT)
there have been and continue to be some personal issues with the team (not between us though!)

sorry for the delay

we're still accepting submissions so get recording!

we'll let y'all know when there's news

thanks for your patience and understanding

SirChick - November 11, 2007 09:33 PM (GMT)
Cool :)

cube - November 27, 2007 05:45 AM (GMT)
the deadline has been extended to mid Jan /08

as things have come up ..and we do not have enough submissions for the cover Cd

SirChick - November 28, 2007 03:02 PM (GMT)
How many you got so far?
I don't think there is any one on this site that is still working towards making a song...

cube - November 29, 2007 03:28 AM (GMT)
we got more than enough for the original one..but if a few more show up even better,

the cover 's cd we have 10

SirChick - December 2, 2007 05:55 PM (GMT)
What about the originals ?

cube - December 3, 2007 03:08 AM (GMT)
we could use a few more...but have enough if no more come in

SirChick - December 6, 2007 02:27 AM (GMT)
