Title: Professional Musicians You've Talked To
gruskada - October 8, 2007 01:41 PM (GMT)
...or email, talked with on forums, chat, etc.
Here's my list:
- Joe Satriani (T2J, Rockline)
- Galen Henson (email)
- Dave Martone (email)
- Gary Hoey (email)
- Ron Thal (email, interview for my radio show (college), forums)
- Joy Basu (email)
- Dan MacAvinchy (email)
- Micheal Knight (email)
- Howie Day (met in a small club in Virginia after a show way before he got big (and subsequently faded away...). I don't care what anybody says about him - you've got to hear him live, he's amazing.)
- David Cullen (taught me guitar for a few grueling months)
... and LOTS of failed attempts via email ^_^
All I actually got a chance to talk to were really cool. Joe spent about five minutes answering my questions on Rockline. Ron Thal (Bumblefoot, now of Guns N' Roses) and I exchanged lots of emails about 10 years ago, listened to my music, and invited me to his studio (couldn't go). I recently read that his hands are getting messed up because he spent so much time responding to fans, and he's now recently just cutting back on responding.
- also, Fred Durst (apparently went to high school with me - didn't know him, though - I've got to find my yearbook...)

that'd have to be Jeff Campitelli... just talked for a few mins bout the songs he was gonna play that day at the Satch concert...

briefly met singer Dexter Something from Offspring at baggage claim (he was groggy but still signed an autograph)
emailed HRH Lord God Mike Keneally a few times and got replies to all
emailed Gail Zappa (kinda counts!) and got a reply
snail mailed Scott Dalhover (I think?!) from Dangerous Toys and received a hand written transcription of the solo I was asking about
excellent idea for a thread!

talked to paul rodgers manager, in a restaurant. he was talkin about music and i said something to him. he told me he was managing. this was some years back. we both agreed how good a singer he is. i saw bad company in 76 tour, and paul rodgers too. i once saw robin trower sign some stuff in back of a club after the concert. we were about six feet away , but didnt say anything. also saw donovan giving a speech sitting on a car hood , in back of club , after he played. just telling stories.

SirChick - October 17, 2007 10:04 PM (GMT)
I assume your some form of interviewer then ?
gruskada - October 18, 2007 12:22 PM (GMT)
If you're talking about me, I'm not an interviewer (not a real one, anyway...) - I used to be a DJ at my college radio station and had an instrumental guitar show, so I emailed a ton of people to try and get interviews. Ron Thal (Bumblefoot) was the only one who came through for the show, but some people wrote back at least. MacAvinchy was a contact of mine for the show (he owns Guitar 9 records, and is a good guitarist himself).
After that, a few were just quick fan letters (Joy Basu, Dave Martone), and some were for SatchNotes (Galen Henson, Micheal Knight). A LOT of the unresponded to emails were for SatchNotes, actually.

since you actually met a well known guitar community person, and no one has resaponded to this, i will make a joke! so you see this guy there , and you said ''oh! so you DO play by yourself sometimes!''
