Title: Jsx Tubes And High Volume
Description: what have you got

mouhsen - October 31, 2007 09:32 AM (GMT)
Hey fellas. I wanted to know from the owners of the JSX amp. How do they feel about the amp at loud volumes? Did you keep the stock tubes, or did you change them?

Today, I tried the amp at all 10s! The master around 5 I think. Needless to say it was very loud. I "liked" the tone. However, it would seem that it sounded more..... smooth at lower volumes.

I do not know if that is due to the tubes?
Is it due to me raising the volume of the channel and keeping the master down?

I would love to hear what you guys have got to say.

Finally, What are the speakers that are in the back? Does anybody know what they are modeled after? And what is the Ohm settings? It was posted a while back as 16 due to the amp being in serial, can anybody reconfirm that?

thank you

6 is as high as i can put it...and really any gig done with it shouldnt need more than "6"...i would think Joe maybe does 8 live....i know in sanfran he couldnt have been past 6..it wasnt that loud....but pedel levels somewhat effect that

7's on the individual channels , 6 on the master
Recording and home get a 1-3 on the master

I think I had it on full blast on the channels, and I think I had it at say.. 5 on the master volume. DAMN that thing was loud.

The thing was that I have it set up to your FIABD setttings. I just tweak it a bit, due to my maple top on the basswood.

i couldn't seem to get that same sound at a higher volume. It may have to do with the other people playing, or where I was standing.

thanks Axe.

Whenever i have my amp at full or near, the tone changes a fair bit, I have a Marshall avt 50, i find that the highs come through a lot more at high volumes so i turn my treb down a bit.

Nothing compares to an amp at 70% and above, thats when all the juices are working mate.

Well, I do agree with too much treble. I did turn that down. I guess cause we grow up hearing how so many people would just dime all the controls.

I took in the amp. I am going to have it biased and put in some 6l6gc into the amp. I will test and see how it sounds.

Cause even at full volume on ultra. there was a hell lot of bass, but not that chunk like an evil dream theater or something. I don't know why.

check this 5 interviews with Joe. He talk about the master/channel volume. http://www.youtube.com/user/PVElectronics

Master volume before 12:00 and channel after 12:00 the sound is more warm. I use my JSX with the master on 4 and the channel at 6-8. The loop increase a lot of volume, turn boths to high settings.

all the settings on 10 is impossible to me, too loud.

Today i record my JSX at low volume with a THD Hot plate at 8ohms. this is the crunch at 8 and master at 4, loop very low and -8db with a SM57. T7,M3,B5 R5, P6, N5. The beginnng i turn the guitarīs knob volume down.

thats sounded very sweet and i think is a tone ive never heard any marshall sound like..i think the jsx has its own tone....or am i bias?

mouhsen - November 1, 2007 03:43 PM (GMT)
a bit of both. I've tried the jsx vs a Boogie roadster, 5150, soladano, and some other "boutique" amps.

the only one I thought knocked the heck out of it was the Diezel herbert amp, and that's like a 4000$ amp.... so for it's price. i think it's kick ass [i.e. JSX].

I've also tried a "trainwreck" replica.... I don't understand how somebody would pay 30,000$ for an original one :P it's good, but not that good

great tone :) And that is the thing. i always get great tone from the JSX on the crunch with the volume down.

I was just surprised that at full blast it wasn't what I thought it would be. However, you live you learn.

btw, what other gear where you using :)

I was suprised too, but not disappointed. The tone keeps almost the same for me.
iīm using ibanez rg 1570 with breed bridge pickup and evo on the neck. On the loop just a Boss DD3, and in the front, a 535q wah and a DS1 for boost, but íīm going too change the boost e others stuffs. The speaker is a governor 75W, 2x12 closed back.

there is much studio technique to improve the quality of the captation of the sound and mix. Iīm only the beginning.
tks!
