Title: How many types of JS guitars are there?

arjun - July 6, 2005 09:38 PM (GMT)
i was just wondering how many types of js guitars there are or have been in circulation. pictures would be great too.

Satch Boogie - July 6, 2005 10:27 PM (GMT)
(Please correct if wrong)

JS1 - In white, red or black. Chrome hardware. Available with HH configuration. But produced HSH config 1992-93.
JS2CH - Original "chromeboy". Project shelved due to problems with the chroming process. This is a very hard to find JS as I think there were only 2 or 3 produced.
JS3 - Donnie Hunt graphic
JS4 - Electric Rainbow painted by Joan Satriani
JS5 - Rainforest graphic painted by Carol Satriani
JS6 Oil - Mahogany body with fixed bridge
JS900BP - Black Pearl with chrome Edge
JS1000 - Basically a JS1 with cosmo hardware (Lo-Pro Edge, later Edge Pro) available in White (WH), Burnt Trans Blue (BTB) and Black Pearl (BP)
JS1200CA - Candy Apple Red. With chrome hardware. Bridge replaced with the new PAF JOE.
JS2000CG - Champagne Gold. Fixed bridge
JS6000 - 1994 update to the JS6?

Cheaper signature versions

JS100
JS600 & JS700 - Fixed bridges.

Satch Boogie - July 6, 2005 10:32 PM (GMT)

BTW: I was wrong when I was talking to you about 2 Blue Donnie models Eric. I thought
the Donnie F was actually the Blue Donnie. So now I must revise my statement.
My favorite Is the Donnie F.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but...

If we want to be a bit liberal in defining a JS guitar, the Ibanez Radius (1988-93) is a VERY close cousin. I have several of them (540R models), along with my JS and the differences are pretty subtle. The Radius body contours varied a bit over the years, but so have the contours on the JS. Most folks would look at a 540R and think it was a JS. The Radius has a basswood body, the JS style neck joint, a strat-type neck (not a Wizard, except on the 540R-LTDs), very similar body shape, Edge or Lo-Pro Edge trems, and even a few features never available on the JS. For example, the Ibanez backstop came on the early ones. Also, one of my 540R's has an All-Access neck joint (only produced in 1993).

So when I think about my JS guitars, I pretty much consider the JS and Radius as one big family.

Cheers,
Bert

I have my JS1000 BP with Custom engraved.
Where is difference between JS1000 and JS1000 with 'Custom' engraved on 21th fret?
What is Custom on that model?

Does anybody know if the JS1000BP (Black Pearl) is still available to buy new? I've looked on the Ibanez site and on shop sites but they only have the BTB (Burnt Transparent Blue) model. Thanks.

Where do yo live? The BP is available new in the US and many other parts of the world, but in the UK I think you have the Burnt Transparent Blue instead. So the BP is still made, but it may take a bit of work to get one. I think this is a pretty dumb move by Ibanez, I am the opposite of you, I really wanted a BTB, but I had to settle for a BP, because I'm not a big fan of the CA.

Thanks for the reply, i'm still far from being well-off enough to afford one but it's nice to know that mabey one day i'll be able to get one lol.

i saw 2 bp's and a red at the north austin guitar center this week.
i was there to replace my case. the middle latch tore out of the plastic! i ended up with a coffin case, and it works great. you need to use the little pillow under the back of the guitar, and i rolled up a towel to help support the neck joint area more, but im super paranoid about how i package stuff :).

Really? Were they new or used. I still don't think that Ibanez officially imports them. I really wanted a BTB, though I have grown to love my BP.

these were all new hanging on the wall. i'm going this weekend for the anniversary sale to see about some strap locks, and whatever on sale crap i can't resist :)
i'll try to remember to take a camera and ill get pix of what they have. \

the n austin store is always well stocked. i can't remember a time when they have not had at least one js and one jem hanging on the wall. too bad their acoustic selection is not as nice, at least martin wise, which is the only one that matters :).

We need to start spamming all boards (satriani.com included) on info about the new JS that is coming up....

I have an interesting question for everyone on here. I am new to this forum and I figured I can get the answer on here:

All of the JS1000WH's that I've seen out there, have a plain maple neck...mine for some reason on the back has a beautiful birdseye to it. Is this rare? I just haven't seen one like that....

Andrew

I think it's just the luck of the draw, as JS guitars are never speced out as having birdseye maple in the necks. So I would say that it must be pretty rare. I would guess that when Ibanez gets nice figured maple it would usually get used to build J-Customs.

If you are going to join this great forum for just so you can post an eBay auction link to sell your guitar, you could at least post it in the Buy, Sell & Trade section.

The forum had some issues with spambots a few months ago, so new users can't start new threads until a mod activates this privilege manually.
