Title: "why" From The Extremist
Description: What is the effect?

In "Why" Joe uses an effect that might simply be muliple guitars mixed in the studio. I'm looking for a pedal or something that has that effect or something very similar to it that is NOT an octave divider. Can anyone help me out or do you know what Joe actually used for that song?

Sorry to disappoint, but that is not an "effect" as such on Why. It is lots of seperate guitar parts recorded over each other. Similar to what Brian May of Queen does a lot of.
You could probably get close by using multiple harmony pedals set to different intervals, but it will never get it exactly right as the harmony parts do not stay at the same interval through the song.
I think Joe kind of blags it live by using the multiple pedal technique. But on the recording it is five or so guitars all recorded and mixed together.
Hope this helps.

If you had the right eventide harmonizer(s) you might be able to get it right.

he was using the boss super shifter when touring strange beautiful music, he was using it on mountain song, but I've seen he still using it in actual tours. So maybe that can help.
