Title: Ok... Call Me Crazy
Description: P90s in my JS1000BP!!

tschommer - December 30, 2007 07:13 PM (GMT)
Ever since I bought my JS1000 I have just never been able to fall in love with its sound. A few years ago I started playing Telecasters, and I have just always loved their sound. So I decided to try to make my JS sound a little bit more "Rude and Nasty" with maybe even a hint of "Twang", so I ordered a set of GFS Mean 90 pickups w/ black covers. They are basically humbucker sized P90s, so they will be a pretty radical change sonically. I figure, that it is a cheap and reversible mod, that may help me to get a lot more use out of my JS.

This may also cure my craving that I have been having for a Japanese made JS700 too, so if it works out it may save me a lot of money :D

YOU ARE CRAZY!!!

at least try on a JS100, not a 1000!!!!

It's just a pickup swap, so it's completely reversible (I will keep the original pups too)! I figured that since I bought the guitar, I might as well make it sound the way I want it to so I will play it. It's not like I'm cutting a Vai hand grip, or routing it out for a Telecaster bridge.

I do agree that it does sound crazy to be putting P90s in a JS1000 though. I think it will sound pretty cool though.

nah schommer i agree with you, i love the feel of a JS, the sound is great too, but yet i would mod it to have the sound, so now you will have the feel of a js, and the sound you have always dreamed of ;).

Thanks, that's kind of the way I see it. The GFS pups seem to get great reviews, plus they are really cheap! Less than $85.00 for both pickups shipped!!

I know that I asked for it, but remember that even Joe asked ibanez for a P90 guitar.

in the video "reel satriani" (recording sessions of the album "joe satriani"), there is this beautiful song that joe plays with a JS1000 + P90 pickups.
i forgot the name of the song.. it's the very bluesy/clean tone one, and that is ironically the one that made me buy my own JS1000 :D

well, i can live with the humbuckers (definitely), but when i get rich, i wouldn't mind buying a second JS1000 and equip it with P90.
