Wow! The 'more' switch sounds like a very cool function, exactly the kind of thing a lot of people would use - wouldn't expect anything less from Joe either B)

nickthelefty - March 14, 2008 03:01 PM (GMT)
this is beyond cool! is there somewhere you can listen to how it sounds?

nickthelefty - March 14, 2008 03:11 PM (GMT)
Oh yeah here's the link to a youtube video of Joe talking about the Satchurator he plays it at the end as well.

Hey, my first post here. Thought you might be interested in a bit more info about the Satchurator...

Look sweet if you ask me,

FenixBG - March 14, 2008 04:51 PM (GMT)
Thanks for the info, dude!
Looks nice :)

SatchScream - March 14, 2008 07:39 PM (GMT)
Damn I can't wait to get one of these.

Axeshredder - March 15, 2008 12:14 AM (GMT)

Ha yeah I would say its in that price range....If i had the money I'd get it at that price....but i guess its easy to spend money you dont have lol

Satch-mo - March 15, 2008 01:36 AM (GMT)
I'm going to go out on a limb and guess $379.99. You pay a hefty premium for having the artist's name on a product. Fortunately, the girlfriend already offered to buy it for me for my birthday this summer! I'm gonna hold her to it, regardless of price...lol

Axeshredder - March 15, 2008 01:45 AM (GMT)
wow..thats a limb i hope we dont have to climb..similiar pedals are around 200...i added 100 for joe..but the comments hes put on this pedal will make it worth whatever price they decide to sell it at...btw, this site was the first to know about this pedal many moons ago directly from joe himself :D

Satch-mo - March 15, 2008 02:21 AM (GMT)
I'm wondering if the pedal when engaged is like the JSX crunch channel, and when you hit the More button if it's like the ultra channel. Also, I wonder if its a pedal meant for the clean channel, the dirty channel to push the overdrive, or both. I'm thinking this is going to surpass the Keeley DS-1's by a long shot, as well as any other distortion on the market....I'm hoping he comes out with signature chorus and delay pedals as well. I can't wait till summer!!!

mouhsen - March 15, 2008 03:42 AM (GMT)
I am curious, will he stop using the amp distortion?

Axeshredder - March 15, 2008 03:46 AM (GMT)
yes he has.... again refer to the first comment... http://satrianiforum.com/index.php?showtopic=4655
clearly the technology of the jsx is old...but not the clean channel and how it was made to recieve fx

If that's the case, then that is freakin sweet! Apparently the clean channel of my Classic 30 is what the clean channel of the JSX is based on....

I would disagree that he has stopped using amp distortion....He says in the Youtube vid that he used the pedal on 3 or 4 songs on the new record. Also, when he was testing the pedal out on tour, of course he's not going to use the amp distortion, otherwise how would he be able to perfect it? The sound dynamics are drastically different at each and every venue...I still think he uses the JSX distortion, and will continue to do so into the future. Now he just has more tonal options available to him. I imagine he was getting sick of guitarists asking him how to get his tone as well. Enter: The Satchurator.

Axeshredder - March 15, 2008 04:13 PM (GMT)
i saw him perform the whole surfing with the alien album and others from SC in 2 locations NY and San francisco. Clearly hes dumped the channel switching pedal from the pack and the amp stayed clean through the whole show...as for recording, hes never used one thing. Assuming during testing that he would drop his normal rig is pretty weird..lol. He may not be able to admit it due to Contractual Rules but when i see him on the second, ill have a third reference whether hes using it or not...like i said...its old technology...maybe 4-5 yrs old...and hes built the perfect distortion pedal.....judge for yourself
I and many have had issue with the ultra channel, the crunch is just a ds1 with a little "More"

Hmmmm, maybe the next generation JSX's to come out will have distortion based on the Satchurator then...Hopefully he can put all these questions to rest...I'd love to know if he is still using the JSX distortion, what other pedals are on the horizon, and what's next for the JSX, if in fact he stays with Peavey...Who knows, maybe we'll see a different brand signature amp in the near future....I wonder who he would pick....Vox, Mesa, Soldano....back to Marshall!?!?!??!?! :o Somebody in the Vai forums commented that the pedal sounds more like his old Marshall tone than his JSX tone... Can't wait to try out this new pedal with my new Mo Joe humbucker in the JS 1200...I think its going to kill....

Axeshredder - March 15, 2008 10:27 PM (GMT)
the truth is ...when designing an amp..you have to include a crunch and/ or ultra channel....a signature Joe satriani amp that had just a clean channel would almost be ridiculous even though thats what ill guess joe would have wanted. hes always been a pedal user, but for the signature amps sake he used it and am sure enjoyed it a decent amout of time afterwards. He always seeking new tones and thats means the jsx is done. If you all payed attention youll know that peavey listened to joe and made what he wanted at that time (now Vox did the same). Peavey is not know for cutting edge electronics..really just amps. The technology of modeling and tones have changed 10 fold since then....without doubt this technology is in this pedal but keeping the old botique look.....and as in his video...replaceable parts etc. I would guess this is more of the next generation of modeling technology that does the same and better than the old electronics. but putting it in this form is way more profittable than a multi-fx pedal...its coming full circle and pedals will make a comeback again....alot of personal opinions and guessing here, but i do know a few things.

Drunken Dave - March 16, 2008 06:00 PM (GMT)
I'm gonna guess the price at somewhere between £175 and £220 (£220 =$446.64)

Satch-mo - March 18, 2008 05:24 PM (GMT)
I'm hoping the manual will have some sample settings, including Joe's favourites...

I get vertigo whenever I look at your photo form that show Joe must be the angle you took it but hey indeed you had a great scoop before the rest knew about the pedal.

Axeshredder - March 18, 2008 08:39 PM (GMT)
lol...sorry bout the vertigo...wasnt much room..truly unforgettable and now the dvd release will be a nice record of the event..i cant wait to see it
at the end of some songs he played, he would hit the "more" button on the last chord to let it ring.....sounded noticably awesome

Drunken Dave - March 18, 2008 08:49 PM (GMT)
What's that other silver pedal with the black knobs?
EDIT: I'm referring this http://satrianiforum.com/index.php?showtopic=4655

Axeshredder - March 18, 2008 08:57 PM (GMT)
hes had that for many years "ultimate octave..used in crushing day SF and many others

Drunken Dave - March 18, 2008 09:03 PM (GMT)
Ahh, I thought he got rid of that and just uses the POG for octave stuff now.

Really? Can't hear anything octave-ish on Crushing Day. I doubt he would use it on that tune...

you can even see him stepping on it from his body language
*the original had harmonizing guitars

Yeah, I guess he does! I thought he used some kind of harmonizer, but upon listening a bit closer, you can hear the octaves...I thought it was some other kind of harmony, like 3rds or something. Did he use the neck pickup for the whole tune?

Axeshredder - March 19, 2008 02:49 AM (GMT)
well i was too focused on filming at the time but the extra solo at the end sounds like bridge pups...and probably the "more" button was on..now that i think of it, it seems like he was really diggin the "more" button that evening

hackit - March 29, 2008 04:24 AM (GMT)
I was just thinking... It would be interesting to see the schematic for this box. Anybody try seeing if there was a patent applied/given for this? I have been searching around but I have not had any luck yet.

guitardave - March 29, 2008 08:46 AM (GMT)
I've found it on pre-order here:- http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/page/shop/ca...roduct_id/36230

Only £85! Much lower price than I was expecting, and I think I'll definately be buying one now!

Noob type question here... If Joe uses the Satchurator for the distortion, and the amp is running on the clean channel, what settings does he have on the amp? Would everything just be at 12 o'clock, and let the pedal do the work, or would the clean channel still be tweaked in some way?

Thanks!

Dave

FenixBG - March 29, 2008 10:49 AM (GMT)
WOW

http://www.thomann.de/de/vox_satchurator.htm

just 99 €! That is quite cheap. Boss MT-2 was like 91 or smthn.
I might want to check this out!

Axeshredder - March 29, 2008 01:01 PM (GMT)
i wouldnt get your hopes up too high..they can post any amount they want at this point ..Vox hasnt released any pricing

FenixBG - March 29, 2008 01:04 PM (GMT)
Well, I am not sure if I would buy it anyways, as I like mine for now, but this surprises me, as I found such a price on many stores around europe, so this is kinda interesting
I was expecting about 150+ € at least. Of course they can change it but I doubt that Thomann and the others would speculate on the price... they have close relationships with the companies I believe.

Dunno, lets wait and see

Axeshredder - March 29, 2008 02:02 PM (GMT)
its a marketing ploy if anything...once you pre-buy, theyll bill ya again or refund. .its only a deposit securing your pedal. They know theres going to be ahuge demand for these. An affordable marketting strategy would be a great idea, but unlikely :(

cube - March 29, 2008 09:24 PM (GMT)
those prices sound about right .. even though a set price has not been released too the public

satchecho - March 30, 2008 12:02 AM (GMT)
