Has any one got a good method of how to approach and practice chords? Its all to easy to learn scales but learning chords I just cannot find a good method to learn playing them (not the theory stuff)
You are having the opposite problem of mine ;)
Well, they are connected.... Chords are scales and scales are chords after all... It is just a matter of practice.
When you are building chords, you will get used to how they sound (so here is the theory part). While building, you will look for this notes and you will get used to different positions and will learn playing them. Later you would realize, that you can move the chord anywhere (to get a different chord), so you would have learned playing it anywhere in any position.
E.g. C major is
0
1
0
2
3
x
and if you move it to E, you get E major, so you would know that this position is E major, and you would not have to think
x
5
4
6
7
x
You can do the same thing with an A#sus4add13 for example :)
does this help, or I just did not get what you mean? :)
Dave that link I sent on MSN should help. www.guitarknowledgenet.com and use the progression builder once you have your chords for each note of the scale. I would learn triads, 7ths then the biggy chords and create some progresssions to see how they work together.
Try analysing a Satch tune the non-lead part to see how Satch does it. Man aren't his tunes great for learning how muisc works...a mountain of info you can gain from them :D
