yeah! I was totally amazed after seeing live at the sheldon hall (or somethink like that)! He's at a lonely top with his acoustic technique! Unfortunately I missed a concert of him last march, but next march he'll perform + give a workshop here in eindhoven!
Can't say it enough: the guy is amazing!

I have seen him 3 times now and he his jaw dropping. Never seen him on an electric guitar though - it might be cool if he did a couple of tunes on one in his shows.

Bought his melbay's VCD last year, definitely the best acoustic player I've seen. And he has a great sense humour too ...
I was blown away by his version of classical gas and blue moon. :hyper:

Hi,
haven't heard of him till now. But seems like I missed something. You got me curious. Will listen to some of his records. I saw he's in germany this august for 2 shows. To late for tickets I think but maybe worth a try.

At the recent 90th Birthday bash held for Les Paul at Carnegie Hall, tommy played at that (as did Joe)...here is an excerp from an article about it....
"Australian master Tommy Emmanuel showed up next telling all how great it was for him to "Honor the great Les Paul and even better to spend Fathers' Day with him because he's such a great Dad!"
Nice words from a guitarist once called "the greatest guitarist on the planet" from guitar leviathan Chet Atkins.
Everyone held on while Emmanuel stoked up his scruffy acoustic guitar for what turned out to be a chunky, rollicking, slam dunk of a piece called "Mombasa".
Tommy pulled out the stops rendering the audience hopelessly joyous goners when he grabbed a drummer's brush to slap his guitar silly with a good old fashioned wanking. As the song ended, the crowd arose from the first row to the high altitude seats - the first standing ovation of the evening.
The only other guitarist blessed with such a display of affection and gratitude was the acclaimed honoree of the night."
If you get a chance to see Tommy play live, YOU HAVE TO DO IT. HE WILL BLOW YOUR MIND!!!

Hey,
Just found a quote of Joe's from the current Australian Guitarist magazine in an interview that he did when he was out here in March. When asked if he knew of any Australian guitarists, this was his answer:
"What comes to mind all the time is Tommy Emmanuel. A guitar player of epic proportions!"
Need he say more!?

Phenomenal guitarist...on electric as well. I've got a tune of him on Robben Ford playing together. Great stuff.

I've seen him in my home town here in OZ. He is just brilliant on acoustic guitar, one of the best no question. IMO he's ok on electric but when he's playing acoustic its just on another level.
He's often been on Australian TV and everytime its just a awesome performance. The idependance between his picking thumb and fingers is amazing, great stuff.
Chekc out a song by him called 'Countrywide' he wrote it in the 80's for a OZ TV show theme, good example of his work.

Tommy Emmanuel is amazing and his heartfelt songs are beautiful, I love his style of playing and his music is very soothing. Definately a great artist featured on Favored Nations. :)

Never heard of this guy. I'll have to check him out.

Also forgot to mention. He has a brother, Phil, who also plays guitar. They used to play together and put on a rocking show. They used to do an awesome routine where they'd play each others guitars, one fretting the others but still picking their own, cool circus trick!
Back early in his career Tommy used to drink quite a bit and be quite rowdy (he says so himself), but he sort of calmed down now and is a more spiritual person.
Still plays guitar like a demon though!!

Tommy Emmanuel is an awesome player, his technique is almost second to none. The only acoustic guitarist I would rate above him is Michael Hedges, I doubt we will ever see anyone as gifted as that ever again. His technique was just frightening.
