Hey,
what should I listen to. I only have the No Substitutions cd with Larry Carlton and that cd is great with tracks like 'The Pump', 'Room 335'.
Which cd should I go for? You should know it as an Lukather addict... :D :D :D

Hey GGoTr,
I'll try to be precise to answer this question: (and it's a HARD one, haha :D ) Well Steve Lukather made 4 solo albums:
1989: Lukather
1994: Candyman
1997: Luke
2004: Santamental
To be honoust, when Toto had no singer from 1991 till 1997 / 1998, Steve took all the leadsinging upon him. (So they are kind of a solo albums either :) ) In the between Toto made 2 albums:
1992: Kingdom Of Desire
1994 / 1995: Tambu
-------------------------
Some short reviews:
Lukather: 80-ies rock, straight 8 beats and a lot of distorted rhytm guitar riffs. (ed van Halen played bass on one of this songs ^_^ )
Candyman: Really cool album with a lot of variation; some VERY cool covers. It's a album influenced by rock/fusion. I LOVE it! ^_^ (Check the Los Lobotomys stuff where Steve played in aswell)
Luke: Well, this is a very nice album aswell. Lukather was just devorced, and some beautiful, emotional songs. There's a lot of styles on that one: from poppy till rock till country. (some more rhytm acoustic guitar)
Santamental: A Christmas album, wonderful playing of Steve L. himself. (Ed van Halen / Steve Vai / Slash /etcetcetc. played on this one.
Kingdon of Desire: Early 90ies rock, then with Jeff Porcaro the old drummer of Toto, who died on a early age couse of an heartattack. This is my personal favorite! Just AWESOME solo's, scoring guitar-rock riffs, and catchy beats. 3 beautiful (how can it be else :P ) love ballads, just wonderful the tekst... I really recommend this one!
Tambu: Cool Toto album, with the new drummer Simon Phillips. Toto was getting a bit more masure.. or something. Really cool songs (And one the most beautifum ballad Toto has ever recorded: I will remember)
I should say check some audioclips on online stores and for further questions, feel free to ask! Cya round, Richard

being honest men, i didn't like those jams,
they are great guitar players but it seems, that they didn't get along on stage,
santana and beck they were great, but lukather i think he was over reacting, he was just trying to show that he is the best, and honestly hi isn't.
but that's just my opinion.
lukather still rocks, but not in those jams
kane_satriani - July 4, 2005 06:24 AM (GMT)
yeh i don't think those james made much sense together lukather is a good player though.i have one of his videos star licks master session seems prety old late 80's early 90's he's good but i just don't like the way he plays or his tone very vast though as for santana and beck i don't like the way beck plays eithier its boring to listen to but then again i only heard like two of his songs as for santana he looked really cool but looked like he couldent be botherd playing anything with much diffaculty wich he can do. my spelling is terable.

I've seen Luke live yesterday and he totally blew me away (for the second time) he's such an amazing artist, and the comedy time between songs was great too. When he played Little Wing I had goosebumps during the entire song, people who say his tone sucks..go and see him live, you will get owned by the amount of tone this man has. I made a 3 minute movie with my camera from the final blues jam of last nights show, don't have the camera atm, but I'll upload it and post it here. The sound will suck hard probebly but who cares ^^

Oh, you lucky bastard! I would have been there too, if I didn't take the tickets for Toto the 21th of July! And towards Satch Padawan and kane_satriani: everyone has his own meanings, and I respect that. Butteh, I think Steve kicks Jeff's and Santana's ass on the vids with his solo's :P
@ GGoTr: Hope you'll enjoy the CD('s)! For more questions feel free to ask!
